Thank you for the tutorial!!!! I was struggling with shapebinder's purpose as a newbie to CAD in general. This tutorial really gave me the insight and understanding at a basic level to figure out how to use shapebinder practically in my daily freecad work.

Fantastic size and color pointer/cursor and icon size is perfect. You explain at a very nice speed and clearly. Watch this video on KZbin and you will notice some problems. The multi colored background make it near impossible to see the constrains and sizes. The constrains and sizes in red is not a good color. If you make the background in one color like close to white and the constrains and sizes in black it would all be clear and readable. Even the sketch lines in black is so much more clearly and visible. Thanks for some of the best videos on KZbin. Very educational........

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I couldn't figure out the UI. I had to click the "object" button then the object in the sketch. Also I had to click the "geometry" button THEN the single line in the sketch. (and only 1 line per button press)! THANK YOU! Man they need to stop adding features and fix the GUI and the topo naming problem! Did I say THANK YOU? !!!!!!

How the green shapebinder option is different to this blue one? Thank you for the video
@cadzis6733 жыл бұрын
There is subtle differences. First, Blue one called Shapebinder. Green one is called Binder in V19. Main difference I see is you cannot attach a sketch to the Binder where as Shapebinder can have sketch attached to it.

howto make gap for bottom box lid so its not too tight
@cadzis6733 жыл бұрын
You need to build sketch a from the shapebinder lid. And this sketch needs to have relationship with shapebinder. So when the box dimensions change lid will change with the same offset(gap). It is hard to explain w/o a picture. Give it a try. I might create a quick video on this....

A great video showing basic usage of shape binder. There was one thing I did not understand. Why did you use the external geometry? I was thinking shape binder did that mapping for you. It seems that shape binder does not provide the edges so that you could reference to fully constrain the sketch. Furthermore if you do use external geometry, you could convert the two lines to construction mode since the padding is relative to the shape binder.
@cadzis6733 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment.... Please watch my second tutorial (Link given below). You are right... method I used did not provide me with lines to create a sketch/constraint. In this case it was not necessary. But in my second tutorial I have to create a sketch, so I used edge linker and then created the sketch. kzbin.info/www/bejne/kHqkp5VtpJmNbpI

If I pad a shape binder, how can I add pockets? I can't put the sketch's pockets in the shape binder because they are around holes (counter sinks), and would break faces. Also, they would be padded instead of pockets.
@TheRainHarvester3 жыл бұрын
I figured it out. I just made ANOTHER shape binder but only of the pocketed geometry. Then I used the body's pocket shape button. (This was a little different than your great tutorial because all the geometry was in a single sketch so I could see everything while I edited the single sketch. Is there anyway to see other sketches in the background while working on another sketch?)
@cadzis6733 жыл бұрын
You can attach a sketch to shapebinder. My video shows how to attach a sketch to shapebinder. Hope this answer your question... If not give me more details of your problem.

@@TheRainHarvester Yes, you can work on one sketch but other sketches if they are in same plane or parallel plane , you could make them visible by just picking these sketches in the treeview and pressing "space bar" key

Is it possible to create a Shape Binder from multiple Sketches instead of just one? Thanks.

Excellent question.... Yes, Shape binder can be a curved surface created by multiple sketches and Boolean operations.

Is there a shortcut to automatically select all edges that logically belong together like those comprising the lip of the box?
@cadzis6732 жыл бұрын
Unlike catia /unigraphics ... there is no easy way to pick multiple lines. There are several selection options available in the Edit menu.

but using this method, the cover lid won't fit if this box is 3d printed. We need some clearance. How can we do that using shapebinders?
@cadzis67311 ай бұрын
Hello … yes, that is understandable. I would recommend modifying the shape binder with a sketch. Then you modify the sketch with clearance. Let me know if this is not clear and I will create quick tutorial…
@ami6packs11 ай бұрын
@@cadzis673 Thanks for the kind reply. Yes, for inner area, we have to use sub-shape binder and create a sketch over it with 0.4mm clearance. And outer area can be used directly by a shape binder. Just did the exercise. I've been using sub-shape binder only but knowing how i could use a shape binder is a good thing to know. e.g. in this case, i used a shape binder for quickly making an object.

If you work off named edges, won't your model be prone to the topological naming problem?
@cadzis6732 жыл бұрын
Yes... This tutorial is just to demonstrate the shapebinder... You should be aware of topological issue in freecad when you build models. I have touched this subject in some of my tutorials.
