This was a good one. I'm an old school BMX'er from the late 80s/early 90s and just getting back into it and I understand what a freecoaster is but didn't really have any idea how they worked technically so this was awesome for me. I really like that you know all about stuff you personally don't use as well, really shows your depth of knowledge. Cheers.

I have a WTP on my Kink and I hate it. It’s got about 2/3-3/4 of a full rotation of slack that you have to push through before you’re applying power again. Unless I’m doing a trick where I’m really moving, I end up having to put a foot down before it reengages again half the time. My buddies bike I learned to freecoaster on was only maybe 1/5 of a rotation. I’m going to be adding a few washers/spacers to mine to fix it this week

@LoneWolfed6 жыл бұрын
Reminder. When rolling backwards when using a coaster. YOU DO NOT USE PEDAL PRESSURE TO RIDE OUT OF A FAKIE. HALF CAB OR SLIDE OUT. When the hub is rolling backwards and you put pedal pressure. That clutch is getting the splines on it worn down. Eventually the clutch won't engage and give you pedal pressure. It'll feel like it not catching, and at that point, your clutch is trashed.

So to get this clear when you go backwards the clutch disengages and threads way until it stops at the end of the threads. Then when you go there pedal for ward the clutch threads back up to the driver and depending on how much distance is between the driver and clutch depends on the slack?

Nice video man. How often do you need to re-grease the hub?
@imehandle8 жыл бұрын
It is recommended to wipe and re-grease it after it breaks in and then every 2 months if you ride it a lot... otherwise every 5 months (or something like that). Also if you ride in a rainy weather and it gets soaked you should do it asap. They also recommended to put tons of grease on the driver, in the clutch, hub shell, on spacers, on the clutch threads etc. This is what they told me in my local store (Evolution), in the Source BMX and the guy from BSD. Also Dan's Comp recommends pretty much the same. This is how i do it now and what i heard works for others... so i would stick to that.

That doesn't have to do with the spacers, some freecoasters are just smoother than others and thats why they crankflip better.

My freecoaster is not working when i put pressure on the pedals , it back pedals as though it was a cassette. If i stand off the bike and roll it back it works fine, do i need to adjust slack/remove one of the washers??
@TheMd19758 жыл бұрын
+ Alfredo Mancuso I have considered getting one but don't know about the slack factor. Can you make it almost engage instantly? And what about the Profile FC? I heard it is the best of both without slack if you set it prior to your trick/s
@42creativestudio518 жыл бұрын
Yes you can make it engage almost like a cassette but it will engage a lot when you go backwards since it's very hard to keep your feet perfectly still at all times (for example when landing hard from a 180). If you want to try a coaster with pawls I recommend the Saltplus Trapez, it has a smaller slack and I think you can even make it a cassette hub if you do not like it as a coaster.
@nevernotkillingit52088 жыл бұрын
Slack is your friend with a freecoaster, no slack being your enemy. Without slack, you're going to end up accidently applying pressure on the pedals when you land tricks such as a 180, the clutch will engage, and you're getting blown off the back on the regs = not fun. If you want to imagine how a coaster feels without buying one first then remove your chain and boom... it's pretty much that with the ability to engage and pedal still. You don't want to use pedal pressure for tricks with a coaster, so if you're someone who uses pressure for pop in half cabs, etc then something to bare in mind is that you will have to adapt how you do certain things to suit.
@nevernotkillingit52088 жыл бұрын
Yes... I ran an old trapez, and you can switch between coaster and cassette... great hubs however I personally blew through two axles in a year, replacement axle sets run at £60 in the U.K. due to individual axles not being stocked by retailer due to their rare use... having bought one I opted not to go for another as there comes a point where I would have spent the same on axle kits as I could a new wheel.
