I love sharing my passion for freediving with my kids. I already freedived before they were born so I knew that the only thing I really had to do was to NURTURE natural born connection with water.
I believe we are all born with the same love for water. At the end of the day, we all spent 9 months floating around! Unfortunately, as babies grow, they start reflecting other people's fears - mostly fears of their parents and other care givers. Suddenly, they're 'thrown' into 'baby survival' classes with a stranger and no connection, affinity or closeness. I see it over and over again.
With my own kids, I gently guide them through the process of self-discovery and I supported their natural drive for adventure. I let them explore and find their limits. I never push, instead I provide safe space.
And sometimes, magic like this happens. I give them a ride on my back! Feeling their little hands hugging my shoulders and feeling their trust and excitement, is so special.
Not everyone has to swim the perfect freestyle. A notion so many Australians are obsessed about. There are so many ways to explore water - best way is to become one with IT - at least for a few, special moments.. :)
