My respect to the lawyers who try to help all these prisoners being held for probably no reason. And the girls in Madagascar prisons: what hell for the parents and family as they have no clue what happened to their girls. I do believe there’s nothing worse for a parent. Again, respect to all organizations trying to help.

I am so thankful this channel covered some of the conditions in Haiti. I work in the medical field and went to the Dominican Republic last year to provide medical services to poor communities (much of the DR isn’t much better off than Haiti) & on one of the days after we set up our clinic there was a Haitian woman that came in for vaginal bleeding and stomach cramps. It turned out that the week prior, she crossed the border into the DR and the border patrol detained her and beat her senseless. She was pregnant at the time. They beat her so bad that it forced a miscarriage. Many of us had to step outside to briefly cry after learning that. And in case that wasn’t horrifying enough..The leader of the trip essentially told me that is just the tip of the iceberg of what goes on in these areas.

I've seen a lot of things on how those from Haiti are abused for going into DR. I'm not saying breaking the law is good but they abuse them. Also DR tends to act like it's this amazing country united by Spanish and culture etc meanwhile the culture they have was brought there by oppressors etc and the country isn't even that nice. I live in NYS and even here in America many walk around with the attitude that everyone wants to or should want to be like them. They're nice culturally etc but nothing to envy. Alot of countries act that way tho so I won't just say them but it's like open your eyes, everything around you is falling apart

@@marie22213 I have spent much time in the DR, what you are saying is inaccurate. I have been accosted by immigrants while there, it is a huge problem. The country provides welfare services for its own citizens, yet it cannot afford to provide for undocumented immigrants. There is high unemployment on the island, and many of these immigrants cannot find work and must accost tourists in order to eat. The USA has punished the DR for this, banning the import of DR sugar. It's extremely myopic of the situation on the ground. The DR is not the USA, they have a right to their language and culture and most citizens support the president. We should take a lesson from them. Are we paying for it? No we are not. You have to actually rent an apartment and live there outside of a tourist area to understand. The DR is not falling apart, they are making great strides. The USA is largely responsible for the chaos in Haiti, and is seeking to develop DR resort towns that are overpriced and car-oriented to serve American vacationers at the expense of the local culture.

I am an African and a lawyer; so proud of our justice system because it works. It's worlds apart from this!! Arrested people are taken to court within 24 hours without fail and there is a lot of order in courts and in prisons; you can easily trace a file and can easily have a judge acquit someone if thermir rights are being violated. What I am watching here is incredibly inhuman; I am infuriated by this and saddened to think that change may take a while to come. Lord have mercy!! 😢😢

Man I'm fighting tears seeing the living conditions of some people, especially knowing that I'm not different than them. I was also born and raised in Haiti. Living in the country for 19 years my parents decided to fly me out to the US for safety and having a better life, which now I've been residing for years going to college there. I remember walking around that prison with my mom looking for a specific thing to buy in the streets but never knew the conditions of those fellow brothers until now. That's the reason you should never be taking anything for granted in this life, you might be feeling lost due to not having a mansion or the car you've been dreaming about, but there are others wishing just to be free. Also being a nursing student makes me perceive that the chance of having a blood clot is so high inside since there are so many of them but just a few beds to rest staying in a room in an uncomfortable position for 23 hours. This for sure will prevent the blood from circulating properly and generate a clot. Now the worst part is having a clot in a prison like this where the people are unfortunately not educated on certain things think the terrible pain it brings will go away with time, just giving it enough time to spread throughout the whole body reaching the vital parts such as brain, lungs, heart. And if this happens death will occur. The second story man I cried like a baby I felt the parents' pain for not being able to pay a bribe or a lawyer for their 17yr old baby girl. That's wickedness, she should be free for something she didn't do. Hope they find a way out to get her out. Thank yall a lot for being so courageous and brave to be able to go there bringing us this full documentary.

I've heard of a lot of these stories before, rich people hiring these young women to work as maids and don't pay them, they take advantage of their poverty and if they should ask for their salaries they're accused of stealing and the backwards laws and systems work against them. So it's a no win situation for them. How can people be so unfair to others is beyond me.

But OMG this is a nightmare! Those poor Haitian men! And specially the one who says he's a painter and artist and was grabbed by the police and when it's said he has no one! I’m sure some of them are in there for doing bad crimes, but man you can tell some of those guys are in there for probably nothing if not the most minor thing and will just be forgotten. That is so sad. Imagine some clerk just accidentally leaving a release paper in his car or falling under the seat of his car and forgetting about it forever. No one would care. Except for the person who’s name is on that paper and will be stuck in jail for the rest of his life because the clerk did not deliver that paper, and did not care whatsoever about losing it. It really aggravates me because they’re only excuses “not my responsibility” even the minister said the same thing pretty much about the judges.

I am in Haiti at the moment and I can tell you the conditions that are described in this documentary are quite good in comparison to what they are now. To start off with the prisons are even more full now due to all the gang problems in the country, also the government is struggling to feed all the prisoners and some are even starving to death. Also since this video the Palais de Justice was taken by gangs a few months ago and all the documents have long been lost or destroyed. So now the vast majority of prisoners have no paperwork at all.

The daughter was even apologizing in her video even though she did nothing! (We know this from all the lies that were told to her family when they would call looking for her, only making the accusation when confronted to pay the girl, lying saying that she would kill herself if her parents found out and even trying to get the sister to come take her place. She didn’t even want to give her owed wages to her parents!). Free the young lady and lock up the doctor. God only know what she’s doing to her patients to keep them coming back.

I'm sad for that girl in Madagascar. Unfortunately, it's something common in the country: girls leaving their remote village to work as maids and get accused of stealing. Actually, there is a myth around teenage girls from the countryside saying that they are innocent and hardworkers so once the employers aren't satisfied for any reason the girls are treated badly. Most of the time, the small amount of money they earn are sent to family members in their village to help so they can't even save for themselves. Sometimes they really steal, I've even heard of some that kidnapped their employers kids and never came back, mostly encouraged or forced by friends and/or family members trying to exploit them. After all, the employers are always to blame because they are minors. So it's a delicate topic in Madagascar but they should be sent back home if you don't want them, they are humans.

Anybody involved in the justice system should be required to spend a minimum 3 months in prison before being considered a position

Truly a terrible thing to keep someone in prison for that long without even being charged or convicted of anything especially in those circumstances inhumane to say the least my heart goes out to them, having spent 20 years in prison for bank robbery the difference is I was guilty, you can’t compare CANADIAN PRISONS to those in 3rd world countries the Canadian jails are like 10 star hotels 🏨 my heart goes out to those who are suffering in jail and those who are free living in those conditions ❤

Surely they could go down the list and release anyone that has been in jail longer than the sentence they would get had they been convicted, right? Where’s the harm in that?

They have way too many processes in place they can’t handle. They’re trying to mimic other systems, with none of the follow through. This is a grand example of putting the cart before the horse. It’s Haiti. They need to act like it. It’s not going to run like The Hague.

The absolute *love these poor, simple people have for their imprisoned children is heart-wrenching 💔. The cruelty of mankind and society around the world is shocking. I've been *around for almost 50 years and it STILL surprises me to see this brutal injustice.

Im crying 😭😭😭 this whole video is so sad. Can there be a go fund me or something to get that poor baby out of jail. I feel so bad for her. Her family is so precious. That is a wicked doctor. She will reap what she sows. Prayers for all the families of people who are innocently locked up 🙏🏽
