Part 2 is an immersive account of one of the most iconic and tragic battles in history, told through its last survivors and through families and communities at home who lost loved ones. When the troops went over the top in June 1916 they imagined this was the attack that would end the war. Instead it turned into the most costly battle of the entire war.

This film should not be censored. It should show the true horror of war. WW1 was at waste of human life. Just so kings that we’re all related could see he had the best followers . Had they been smart they should have all taken out their monarchs instead of fighting.
@StefanMedici2 жыл бұрын
I assume the blurring is for the sake of KZbin, and I completely agree. However I disagree with the monarch comment. While you get good ones and bad ones, it's no different to democratic leaders, except all of them want power hence they work hard to get that power. Also as opposed to most monarchs they don't serve in the military before sending others to die.
@jrt8182 жыл бұрын
The monarchs were pretty much out of the picture by the end of the war and the casualties weren't going down.

Indeed, blurring is a YT requirement for an “available for all ages” tag.

I love to listen and watch evrything on the first world war...so tragic and the courage the men had in such a horrible war could not be surpassed! God bless these wonderful warriors who did the impossible. I have always felt we should have entered that war sooner than we did and fight for freedoms and democracy!

@rhunter762i2 жыл бұрын
To put the battle of the Somme in context, it took the US, from 1956 roughly, to 1975, to lose 58K+ KIA in Vietnam. At the Somme, the Brits lost 60K+...IN A WEEK!! They did the same thing of "going over the top", over...and over...and over...again, and again, and again; FOR WEEKS!! There's an old saying; "If you KEEP doing what you've always DONE, you'll keep GETTING what you always GOT". So, how many times would it take to realize that such a plan was NOT a viable option? To KEEP doing the same thing, and yet, EACH time, expect a DIFFERE ENT outcome, is the DEFINITION of insanity. Do you think the leadership was insane? Or was it that they simply didn't GIVE-A-F**K? I believe it was Queen Victoria who famously said, "Why, we just have to do SOMETHING to... cull the herd". I wonder...did any of the aristocracy send any of THEIR sons to war? Somehow, I don't think so....

Are the film clips shown in this documentary taken from films that were made at the front in “real time?” Or are they subsequent reenactments made after the war? To me this is an important point concerning the accuracy of this documentary.
@sigmachud9092 Жыл бұрын
i suppose it would be important to the accuracy of this documentary, if you disregard the interviews of veterans who were there and just focus on the footage used. if you are more interested in footage from the war there's an entire documentary that covers that very subject, cant remember what its called but its out there
