Thoughts: -People steal tractors and SxS's a lot, GPS everything that you leave out there. -If you don't plan on using all the field area, leasing to a farmer is pretty common and brings in some extra cash. -Insurance insurance insurance....and waivers for everything. -Sign an equipment rental business as a sponsor, because you are going to need a lot more than an ag-tractor and borrowing what you need is more cost effective than buying. -Ask for help, we all want to pitch in and there are experts in every field in your audience from mowing grass to engineering...but remember to have everyone sign a waiver that walks onto the property. -Have fun guys, can't wait to see what you do and who you have come out there!

A friend of mine buys and resells auction stuff. He has bought a couple of asphalt spreaders for a couple grand. It costs a lot to have paving done. Asphalt is easy. You buy some used equipement and when you hire maintenance guys, (you will need them), hire some with asphalt experience. The best advice I could give you is to find someone who has business owning experience, construction/maintenance expereience, as an advisor. If I wasn't in Oregon, I'd volunteer more than just my brain and life experience. There's ways to own a business and not have it be a money pit. The least of your worries is an electrical fire. The worst I've seen a pole light do is throw some sparks. The buildings were done to electrical code, (HAD to be because of spectators/public events). Doing things in house CAN be more cost effective, depending on level of expertise. Two advisors you need: an attorney and an accountant. With your YT rev, you should already have them, right? lol Talk to your Dad(s), uncles, etc who have owned businesses, etc. If you want to pick my brain, let me know, be glad to help you guys figure out a big picture strategy. Regarding the pasture/field. If it's grass that can beused to grow feed, someone would lease it, to grow livestock feed, (they do in Oregon, Florida I don't know.) It creates a cash flow, and you don't have to maintain it. With 63 acres, you could likely lease 25-30 and still have plenty of parking. Advice on something like that? Reach out to a community college or university. They'll be able to tell you how much acreage you need for parking, based on crowd estimates. You've done enough C&C's to have data. good luck, hope this helps... fuck, hope you see it, ------ Hey, Cleetus fans, vote this up, so they see it. We ALL want them to succeed with this, so we can enjoy it with them. There's a massive amount of knowledge in all of us you follow and support these guys. If you know your shit about something related to physical plant management of something like this place, or accounting, or paving, or construction, these young guys are gonna need solid, honest advice. From what I see of the YT world, there's some damn good people, (think PFI Speed/Boosted Bois new shop story). These guys will benefit from knowledgable advice, in addition to financial support.

@georgedennison33384 жыл бұрын
@manny s I'm an old, hyperactic fart. Been building hot rods and drag racing since the '60's, have owned shops, and other businesses, was in construction for 30+ years. I just got an education in asphalt a couple of summers ago, when they rredid the road in front of my place. They fixed the first 10 feet of my driveway, but I had to prep it. In the process, I got to know the crew, and found out they grind up a lot of the old asphalt, then mix it back in with new. I was giving the young foreman a hard time about 'selling our asphalt back to us', and he said I could have all I wanted. They offer it, so people don't think they're selling it back to us. I was joking, but it turns out the ground up stuff just needs to be heated, and rolled, and it's asphalt, again. Ultimate recycling. I ended up cleaning up both sides of the mile and half road for them, and fixed my neighbors drives and stuff, and still ended up with 3-4 pickup loads of ground up asphalt, and gravel. Was able to cover all my outside work areas and I still have enough, (plus a bunch of new asphalt they ended up giving me), to expand my driveway by about 60%. All it cost was a bunch of fucking shoveling, and humoing a wheelbarrow. The friend I have who buys auction shit and sells it bought a 'road maker', the following winter, after I got the asphalt education. It's the thing the dump truck puts the asphalt in. It's motorized and puts down the new road. Then the roller follows it. He paid less than scrap for it, about 600.00. I fix all the broken stuff the buys, and there was nothing wrong with the spreader, needed a new battery. Fired right up. It had a hours clock on it, and the total was equalt to about 3 summers of use. He sold to somebody city or county in Montana for 12,000. There's a ton of them for sale on the Internet, cheap. Cleetus and the boys could spend 10,000 and get a grinder, spreader, a big and little roller, and maintain the track themselves. Buy the new asphalt delivered, like the road construction companies do. This place is gonna be successful, that means they will need a maintenance crew. If they hire the right guys, they can get maintenance, improvement and paving experienced guys. Would keep their costs down. They have the added advantage of already having the tools, and shops to maintain used equipment, unlike a normal track. After over 50 years of owning and running all kinds of businesses, the single most important aspect is keeping costs down. No matter how successful, or how much money you make, you just can't hire everything done. The more successful you get, the more there is to do, and the more wear and tear on the physical plant. Vicious circle. I have already heard Garrett talk about keeping ticket prices down. Keeping costs low is the way to do it. Otherwise, it will be NHRA, or Disneyland prices. KZbin creates a new dynamic, as well. It is an amazing community. Look at the story of Brent and the Boosted Bois. Brent is mentoring the Bois, his son is one of them. He loses his shop lease. That could kill many businesses, or, at least eff em up for a few years. Kyle, (Boosted Boi), go crowd funding, and in less than a year THEY have the foundation of a dream shop. That shop is massive potential. The KZbin community bought them a shop! There's a machinist in Cape Cod with a channel. His wife divorces him, and he has to sell his shop. He was so effing depressed. Really depressed, not just sad. He does a Go Fund me, and raised 60,000+ in less than 6 hours! Fucking KZbin people are amazing. He's a new man. Just dropped the first post funding vid this AM. He is shell shocked by the response, but in a good way. He was hoping to get enough to subsidize the move. If he wasn't dpendant on shop income, and had the time, he could find a much better place than the shit hole he's leased. He could buy something, given time, but he's already going in this direction. i've been successful at businesses, but sometimes life still fucks you. I had the start of a dream shop in the '80's. It was a dream, and was about to blow up. One day my partner says, 'I don't want to be partners anymore.' Turned out, his new girlfriend's dad, who didn't know I was who was making this thing happen, was whispering in my partner's ear, 'You don't need George, you can do it without him.' Well, he couldn't. I didn't learn about the 'dad' who was wanting to horn in for 10+ years. After I left, the shop didn't operate 6 months. We has since patched up our friendship, and he's once again my 'big brother', but he admits it was the biggest mistake he's ever made. He's 10 years older than me. He lived about three blocks away from me when I was a teen. I knew he was into cars. He had built some show quality stuff, and had grown up in SoCal. Best fiberglass man to walk the planet. I had a '57 Chevy Two Door wagon I was building. I needed some welding done on the rear housing, and didn't have a good car battery, let alone a welder. I put the empty housing on my shoulder, and walked down to his house one day. Asked him if he could do some welding for me, if I could help him with something as payment. We've been like brothers for over 50 years. Anyway, life can throw you curves, it knocks you down. You gotta keep swinging at the pitches, and get up when you get knocked down. If you do, you learn something every time. later...
@georgedennison33384 жыл бұрын
@Nathan DiSalvo I imagine aggregate size would be critical. Size and consistency, both. Too rough and it would kill tires. Asphalt/tar content is where the strength comes from. They're using a 'new' binder glue stuff, which they mix into the mixture, and use it to bind new asphalt to old asphalt when they overlap, and they use it to seal those joints. I got a crash course in asphalt a couple summers ago, when the road in fromt of my place got a new overlay. In the process, the city redid the first ten feet of my driveway for free, but I had to prep it. Turns out the city is responsible for water runoff. I was just considering getting aprice to fix the two 'ponds' I've had at the end of my drive for 20 years. At each corner, 2" deep all winter. Then come summer it was inch thick mud and muck. Turned out the last time the road was overlaid, 40 years ago, my drive was gravel, so the city didn't do anything to mitigate run off. Later, the previous owner added it, and like all of the work on this place, it was shit work, hence the ponds. The crew was great, and taught me all about the prep, and such. Then I learned about how recycleable asphalt is, and got all the old ground up asphalt I wanted, (heat it and roll it, it's asphalt, again. Most of them had done a bunch with it, at their places.) I got a bunch of end of day, new asphalt, too. I was able to get enoughh gravel and grindings to cover all of my outside work areas and paths, (got a half acre). and enough grindings and new mix to add double the width of about 60% of my driveway, free, for shoveling and wheelbarrowing it. Something I discovered when it came time to work the new stuff. The agggregate is a certain size, and smaller. The stuff that's 1/4" and smaller is like cream of wheat. I used it to fill in between bricks, along tone edge, to anchor them, like mortar. I also used it as an overlay, where pressure washing and other stuff had made the asphalt real rough. IE: too rough for floor jack, andd such. You can work this stuff until you almost have a concrete smooth surface. When asphalt is dumped in a pile, this stuff rolls down the size of the pile. It's an amazing material, and with some work, they could have a phenominal surface. I do recall learning 40+ years ago, the best asphalt roads have a concrete base. The concrete is more stable, the asphalt more durable. When you see new highways, especially Interstates, they concrete first. When you see state or county roads that fall apart waaaay too soon, they have no concrete base. The traffic pushes the asphalt into the ground, creating cracks. They would need to hire somebody who know asphalt, but given the situation, they shouldn't have a problem finding an asphalt genius, who's also into cars, who would walk to Fl to go to work for them.... you know what I mean? LOL
@mannys45394 жыл бұрын
@@georgedennison3338 It sounds like you've lived a heck of a life sir. These are the things that need to be passed on... so I say thank you! I had no idea they didn't use concrete under the asphalt... I thought it must have been a standard or something... awe heck was I wrong...
@georgedennison33384 жыл бұрын
@manny s Thanks... I've packed a lot in, that's for sure. The condition of my body is proof of a lot of it. LOL I still plan on packing a lot more in, yet. I stil, put in 12-14 hours, 7 days a week. i'm talkin' about half of it hard ass physical work. re: concrete under asphalt. To do it right, it should have concrete. If you notice the Interstates are built with a concrete base. Think about a state or county road that falls apart after 4-5 years. You've seen them, I'm sure. They chesp out, and don't put concrete down. They figure they can repair it, and get by. If you have any friends with asphalt driveways, check them out. Drive anything heavy on it, and it'll kill it. The other killer of asphalt is cracks. A crack develops, then water gets in, and freezes in the winter. The ice expands, making the crack bigger. THAT is a problem. I got a crash course education about asphalt a couple of summers ago, when the road in front of my house was repaved. I was thinking about getting a bid to fix a problem where my asphalt driveway meets the road, (no curbs and gutters, or sidewalks on our street.) I've had two ponds for 20 years, at each corner of my drive. Then they fill up with road muck, by summer, I have two, inch thick blocks of dirt I have to remove. The last time the road was resurfaced, the drive was gravel, so the city didn't do anything about runoff, which is their resposibility. Ends up, the city agreed to repave the first ten feet of my drive, as wide as I wanted to go. I had to do the prep. I went wide enough to park two cars. The road crew taught me what to do for the prep, and I got to know them. Most of them had done things at their places with asphalt. If you notice, they will grind up the old asphalt, where they are going to overlay and make an old asphalt- new asphalt joint. The grindings can be heated, rerolled, and turned back into asphalt. Use one of those big azz propane roofing torchs. I used a heavy flooring roller to do some. Anyway, asphalt is amazingly recyclable. Later..

Mostly in the end, contract mowing is cheaper, considering you buying the equipment, the parts and your mechanics to constantly keep everything running. It is good if the mower guy is also the mechanic or else someone is sitting around. Always get thee mower companies to bid the job and get a reference checking - reliability, insurance. Also consider the employee wages, if full time will expect health insurance and vacation. You have a lot of decisions to make, seek wise council ( free ) Alton Long

I'd consider you my favorite KZbinr but they're almost tied. It's the only two car channels I watch every notification and have watched all the videos uploaded so far. Being a lifetime construction worker and general contractor, I'm fully aware of the cost of surfacing the track and the maintenance that would be required. I pray you guys get the sponsorship needed to get it done and that you do the kind of business required to keep it up. Nothing would make me happier than seeing you guys end up with the most successful 3/8 mile in the southern states. Good luck and God speed my friends.

That would be cool, but I think it would be better if the third shop was made universally for guests. Any visiting team can come in and make use of it. These guys have smart business sense... and the tracks not really that bad. They will be able to get it patched good enough to do what they want for a while until they have some capitol built up, then a re-surface will probably have to be done. (at least on the circle track part) And managed in the right way the fans could/would, all chip in and re-furb the place. Appoint a "manager" for each task & group. Then post a numbered sign up sheet for each group/date for the fans and when it's full that's all who get in that day. Last thing they need is a free for all herd of cats in there...

Since you're paving the center section of the track. You should also look into local autocross clubs. Having a nice big track with plenty with a paved center really opens up a lot of possibilities for course design for an autocross. Some clubs will only run in parking lots but smaller clubs will use asphalt tracks also, especially if the selection of big parking lots is limited in the area. Renting the track out for the day for an autocross could be a nice way to get a bit of income from the track and easy way to make some decent content.

I gotta be honest, I'm so friggin excited to see this after it's done. Like SO excited. And being from Louisiana, it's feasible for me to make a trip down once it is.

Seriously, Mountain Dew needs to reconsider that sponsorship, you guys own a RACE TRACK now. I'm still wound up over this news!
@wesley85994 жыл бұрын
Honestly, the Dew PR team is either kicking themselves or having a meeting next week to consider. Worst case scenario there's only one event at the track this year bringing in what, 10k people? On top of dozens of videos between now and then.
@kalebleffert69094 жыл бұрын
If hot wheels is gonna sponsor tanner fox then mtd should sponsor cleetus. More video production, constant crew that stays the same, and aats changing the game to something we will love.

Mountain Dew gets free advertisement from him now.. why would they want to pay for it?

Wow Cleetus!! Me and a partner built the engines for some of the Super Late Models that dominated the track in the 80's. Bringing back some great memories. So glad to be bringing the track back to life. It's been sitting too long.....
