Deep down they still know that Joshua Nkomo was a good man, he never advised Ndebele/Kalanga to hate and kill other tribes. He always preached peace and Ubuntu in his rallies.

@Element No. There was no hatred. Don't listen to Zanu propaganda. Ndebeles and Shonas reconciled and fought the white settlers together during the First Chimurenga. Even liberation war there was no tribalism. Both Zanla and Zapu had Ndebele and Shona fighters. Only towards independence Mugabe used tribalism to his advantage so he would win.
@cc355063 жыл бұрын
@Element . The first Chimurenga happened after Ndebeles invasion. Thats why I said they reconciled and fought the white settlers. A Ndebele spirit medium is the one that called for the war and talked to Shonas to fight the white men. Ndebele started and Shona came to join them. They were defeated and Rhodesia became an official country. They would fight again decades later. That is the second Chimurenga war. Thats why I said Zimbabweans are so stuck up with Zanu propaganda. We don't even know our real history. We think that Shonas and Ndebeles hated each other yet our ancestors had already reconciled way back to fight the first Chimurenga.

I read somewhere more than 50 civillians were killed when they were caught at a crossfire at a pungwe like this one. The price of war is heavy. Though it was callous on the part of the Rhodesian forces. They could have tracked the comrades to their base later on instead of firing at civilians as well.

Yeah I think Zanu's plan was to divide and conquer and the people were tired of everything so I guess they fell for it. Very unfortunate. @@xolani2321 I agree, It started way before 1980, was all about power, Everyone knew that in terms of leadership and moral principles Dr Nkomo was the better option. You should watch Zenzele Ndebele's interview with Dr Dabengwa. That is why Mugabe left Zapu to form Zanu. I am speaking as a shona by the way. This comrade was fighting for his country and people. Mzilikazi invaded Shonaland in the 1890s. Robert Mugabe destroyed the Zapu dissidents in the 1980s. 50/50. War is war. Those were the times. Zimbabweans like whining about the past as if there were no tribal conflicts in other countries. You find someone from Zimbabwe praising South African liberation war heroes like Mandela, Shaka Zulu and Mangosuthu Buthelezi of IFP as if they never spilled blood. Shaka Zulu spilled a lot of blood, his own people as well as other tribes. Nelson and Winnie Mandela tortured people by burning them alive with tyres. The Zulu party IFP waged war against the Xhosa dominated ANC. Over 3,000 people were killed in these conflicts. Cowards always think there is no conflict in other countries. About 337 South Africans lost their lives during the 2021 Covid mass protest. 50 people were killed and 361 injured in the recent Kenya protest. Even the Bible is full of wars sanctioned by God - Israelites Vs Philistines and other tribes. Moses, King David and many others fought wars. This business of whining about the past is for cowards.
