The power of knowledge is not really the truth. It's how it can be used and what effects it creates. That is what these trolls have understood, and it's up to each individual to make a decision about what to believe in. Confirmation bias is a real thing, so if you're an extremist you'll always find whatever source that backs up your beliefs, and the algorithms that social media platforms have used for years will promote more of that content, radicalizing a lot of people as a result. On the other hand, it's simply impossible to manually cherry-pick what to censor with the amount of content that gets uploaded on KZbin alone. The algo must simply change so that all can ideas co-exist and be accessible to anyone.

I hear you - but I'm paid by a mainstream media organization to make content for KZbin. Doesn't that counter the idea that MSM has an anti-KZbin agenda? I think the larger point I'm making here is that there is a difference between professional journalism/commentary and some of the amateur journalism/commentary that appears on KZbin. I have the benefit of fact checkers, for starters. If I promote a conspiracy theory I'll get fired. If I take money from a brand and let it impact my pieces, I'll get fired. I don't think all KZbinrs should have those same standards. But I do think the standards should be a little higher.

@@LouisFoglia Oh Completely agree and I always love your videos and appreciate your insight because of it. While yes there is a lot of problems with the "free market" of KZbin. they cannot behave as a publisher or they will have bigger problems as publishers are held to different rules and laws. As you mention if a Newspaper publishes an article that is in fact all fake there are laws and regulations that will backfire. I just wanted to point out how biased mainstream can be as well and some of their research can be exaggerated as some of the ways they portray radical on KZbin is not necessarily radical, and can't be control because one can argue once they control more of what they have they are a publisher not a platform. Newspapers also tend to be more biased towards something because that will get a better core audience that will always support them regardless and why we see now more than before news segments and shows be more favorable towards a political party is because that brings more views and support as well as hate.
@minirunt
@minirunt 5 жыл бұрын
I think that most people would agree that social media sights and KZbin has increased censorship/filtering of content in the last few years. - for good or bad. However, KZbin, Facebook and Twitter has now put themselves as publishers and perhaps now they should be treated as publishers - subject to slander and liability lawsuits and no protection under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. Congressman Louie Gohmert bill would "remove all section 230 protections for any provider that used filters or any other type of algorithms to display content when otherwise not directed by users." So it all comes down too: do we think people are idiots and need someone to tell them what is right or do we believe the people can make up their own minds. I was a trained journalist and now find that most so called trained journalist (especially mainstream broadcast journalist) continually violate the basics of journalists - i.e. inserting individual opinions or words and continueally using unnamed sources. - a no-no in journalism. However, this has also been a problem our founding fathers found. Journalism in the 1700 and 1800s were also very subjective. It was not until the 20th century that journalism started to develop standards -- which has gone by wayside today. I tend to trust multiple sources, such as BEME News vs CNN or even Fox. The internet does help you at least find or research.

I've definitely experienced that radicalising push of KZbin. It's like "Hey, we see you checked out the opinions of some moderate libertarians and conservatives. Here, have a load of content by straight-up white nationalists." or "Hey, you seem to be broadly a social liberal. Have you considered Communism?" So KZbin needs to work on that recommendation algorithm. But let's not jump into heavy-handed censorship.
@WattsTheSafeword

Freedom of speech isn’t at the foundation when the company and its algorithm actively restricts LGBT voices. Further section 230 just got shafted with SESTA/FOSTA. Sooooo 😅 As much as they’d like to think they’re in the advertising business, they are absolutely a publisher and we should be holding them accountable as such.
@darestone3335
@darestone3335 5 жыл бұрын
KZbin would be done away with if they would claim responsibility for every single video on their platform. There are over 1.300.000.000 videos on youtube. Do you see the problem? KZbin would either be in constant legal battles or they would need to curate every single video posted to the platform (which is practically impossible)
@WattsTheSafeword
@WattsTheSafeword 5 жыл бұрын
@@darestone3335 I think you misunderstand my point on section 230. Which was altered with SESTA/FOSTA. This now holds KZbin liable for content, which has driven over censorship. There are tons of videos for sure, but the lack of transparency and actual support for the LGBT community is the problem. The system isn't doing any favors and over polices these types of videos. Regardless what they think, they are a publisher in more ways than an advertiser.

Yellow journalism was the original “clickbait”, I guess you could say. And, I suppose, mudrakers… I think the big problem today was that back then, they had to get shelf space, or rack space, and the cost of entry was rather high. @JamesRoyceDawson
@JamesRoyceDawson 5 жыл бұрын
Those aspects are at odds with each other. If you have emotional headlines and then length, detailed, nuanced explanations of the facts, people aren't gonna read it all and feel like the title was a lie. Emotions are generally simple gut reactions. Facts are often dry, complex and not easy to express in tweet-length reads.

@@KrazywithakKid I don't think it's censorship, this is promoting what sells ads and are "advertiser friendly". Logan paul has a huge following they have no problems getting ads for his trash videos. news on the other hand talks touchy subject most advertisers don't want to pay for. so google goes with traditional media route cause they don't have enough people to vet news videos from smaller channels to get advertiser friendly status. they are promoting what is safe and what is easier to sell, not censoring.

"but do they have the will?" This is very disingenuous. I'm not trying to be patronizing here, but I really don't think you understand the magnitude of this challenge. 500 hours of content per minute Lou! Even if you put aside the issue of scale, which you shouldn't, it's truly astronomical, if KZbin's AI would be able to accurately understand what is being said and it's truth value AND it's true intent (maybe a lie is due to omission, maybe a violent overtone is intentional), then it would mean they have pretty much created a general artificial intelligence.

Again FANTASTIC when you look to what is happening right now in the USA media and with "trump" this is 1000% what is going on right now keep up the fantastic work. This piece was better information on how current media landscape and online media works in 15 min, then most "main stream" media do in a years worth of time.
