The Freedom of the Seas was built at the STX Europe shipyard in Turku, Finland, which also built the other Freedom Class ships. Upon completion, it became the largest passenger ship ever built.
The Freedom, as it is also known, has 2.4 meters less waterline; is 6 meters shorter and has 1.5 meters less paint than the Queen Mary 2. The Freedom, however, is larger in total tonnage. Its tonnage of 154,407 t was calculated by Det Norske Veritas, a Norwegian maritime classification society, which compared it with the 148,528 t of the QM2.
