Looks like something I would have designed. I had the title “chief engineer”, my guys would say, “don’t let him (me) touch anything (math models, prototypes, test samples, test set ups) “. I did a hell of a job of finding virtual geniuses in the field of very analytical engineering my group did. They were are at least 50% to 100% smarter than me but I still loved to fiddle with the dials once in a while.

How does it handle cooling the exhaust output the way a normal outboard does the prevent overheating the enclosure of the engine?

Makes more sense on a very large outboard motor as the engine is so valuable so anything to improve the longevity and durability of that would be greatly appreciated I'm sure by boat owners. Like the shark fin on the cowling. Is that more than just a design motif?

Man I would love this in the kelp. Put some sharp edges on those cooling fins and you're chopping salad. Too bad you can't move those fins to the bottom of the hull somewhere. Lower units love dolphins, turtles, sun fish, and whales.

I'd imagine as long as the water you're in isn't 70+ degrees you wouldn't have anything to worry about. Regular motors don't cycle through the head constantly, they have thermostats to control the temperature since the water you run in is generally between 35-70 degrees in most places on average, which would prevent the motor from reaching operating temperature if it wasn't regulated.

Nowhere near as good as a ProDrive. And it’s way more expensive than a ProDrive.

We run both gator tails and outboards in the marsh - this motor would do great!

I'm old school and have no experience with Tohatsus. They could be amazing or they could be the Kia of boat motors, I have no clue. My question is do you guys have plans to create stand alone kits that can be installed on other brands of outboards? And being a dealer would the factory allow you the freedom to do this type of innovating or would you be violating some type of non compete commitment?

At one time, and they might still. Tohatsu made all of the 40hp, and smaller for Mercury, and a few other brands. All they changed was the decals.

Tohatsu is very good, right up there with Yamaha in terms of build quality. One thing you need to seriously consider for every brand is access to parts and service.

The Tohatsu outboards are great, some of the most reliable on the market. In the Asian market, they are considered the best outboard you can get. They are also all designed for use in salt water, so this system is simply useless for them. You are more likely to have the lower unit stick to the mid section from corrosion than to have corrosion destroy the engine. If you need to operate in shallow or muddy conditions, then a ProDrive would work better than a traditional outboard engine with closed loop cooling. This design is simply useless and will get are just going to try to make money from those who don’t know any better.

all it takes is a stump or something to rip one of those fins off and lose all your coolant just to be stranded.

It's for salt water so you don't have to flush the motor all the time, not many stumps to hit in the ocean lol

@@firstlightflicks yeah if you only run in it a few times a year, no bid deal. But if the boat is in the water every other day or stays in the water for days or longer at a time, then it would be beneficial. It has it's uses, just not for every application

@@jonathantheunacceptable4259 my boat stays docked in saltwater 24-7 and I’ve had zero problems with any corrosion or etc like what was explained prior, it takes just a couple minutes to flush with fresh water all this is is a gimmicky solution to a problem no one had

Why not just build a water cooling system with quality parts and materials. Don't need to reinvent the wheel for something that's been proven to work. Inboard use is fine, outboard not so much.

It's for running in shallow muddy tidal waters. They aren't reinventing the wheel, they're just putting some mud boggers on them.

Did you say Tohatsu and Freedom motor in the same sentence? I have a freedom motor too, stroked 460 bb Ford in my 76 Sleekcraft Kauai. ALL AMERICAN. Now i remember Evinrude, Johnson, Mercury, Mariner having much more "freedom" heritage than Tohatsu. Not knocking their motor or your innovation, just not anywhere close to a freedom motor. Like calling a Nissan Skyline a freedom car because it has a set of Hoosiers on it.🤨 I dont think so Tim. Am very intrested to see where this goes, would be hard to compete against other cheaper solutions I'd think, especially when you tell the customer it takes some "special" $100 a gallon coolant which seems to be the trend now days with anything. Id be intrested to know your selling strategy against these other tried and true simplistic methods.

Good Lord guys. I just finished a head gasket replacement in a 1978 70hp Johnson that has lived an abused life as a commercial halibut skiff motor in salt water. They used good alloys and engineering. There was almost no corrosion in the aluminum. The bolts were not spalled in like on newer motors. Getting in and done was a breeze. Don't spend hundreds of dollars per motor to overengineer your cooling system. Spend a few dollars per motor and use better stainless and better aluminum. The alloys you guys are using today is pure crap. It is what they used to use as sacrificial anodes in those old Johnsons. I don't understand why you bubbleheaded engineers don't listen to us mechanics other than the obvious: an overinflated opinion of your classroom education combined with abject stupidity that education cannot fix.
