Freedom Stories: It gets boring

Together with ACON, ReachOut.com worked with a bunch of talented filmmakers and storytellers to produce 5 digital stories. Our storytellers share their own experiences in coming to terms with their sexuality and/or gender, and what they wish they knew then, that they know now. These stories present a picture of diversity, strength and resilience, with the aim of supporting LGBTIQ people who may be going through something similar.
Comedian Rhys Nicholson together with some other excellent Australian talent, reflected on their own experiences to present the notion that being gay doesn't just get better - it gets boring. So let's talk about something else.

I’m a 65 year old man who came out at age 51. It was great! I had a lot of fun then, and I still have a lot of fun. Being gay is anything but boring, but coming out was the best thing I ever did. Nobody makes fun of me or tries to humiliate me. People are kind and respectful. Straight or gay, life only gets boring if you let it. As Mame said, “Life is a banquet, and most poor sons of bitches are starving.” ...or something like that. However, the best part of being out is that I am living my authentic life.
