Freelander 1.8 & 2.5 Fuel Filter Change + Fuel Pump +UPGRADE to 255 LPH

Taking out the fuel pump unit in the tank that holds pump, filter, regulator and level sender. This started out as a service job to change the fuel filter that is in the tank. It’s almost the same on 1.8 and 2.5 petrol engine. But a while back I did a fuelling upgrade (255 LPH) on my Freelander 1.8 turbo conversion and so these videos are merged into this one.
Apart from being a good service item to attend to, I also had a power cut off symptom on my v6 2.5L that needed fixing. The symptom of power cutting at full throttle 5000 rpm felt to me like fuel starvation and so it was. All fixed now. Just clogged fuel filter I think, which were changed, both pre pump and after the pump, but since the whole pump unit was a cheapish £37, I changed the whole tank unit. Which was a comeinhandy moment as it also included fuel pickup filters as well as main filter, plus of course the pump and regulator plus level sender, so a great price. I bet you couldn’t get that price on a BMW or Audi!

I wish I could find one for that cheap, going back to the junkyard tomorrow, hope it will fix the fuel level issue. I turn on the car and it's half then another time it is full.

Thank you so much for this video! My 1.8 has the same symptoms, i changed the fuel relay assuming it was the problem but didnt solve the issue. Next step was the fuel system, the filter. Ive ordered the pump now and looking forward to changing it.

Hi I struggled for 3 hours trying to get the sealer ring back on again. Is there a trick to it? Is it possible that I have put the rubber ring on upside down? It just would not engage to allow tightening up

Time 21:11 in video: “fit the sealing ring to the tank first before fitting the pump else you won’t be able to fit the locking ring” - does that help?

Is it the original fuel rail?

On my 1.8 turbo the rail and inlet manifold were from the mg6 1.8T. A similar one way system to the freelander.
