You have an absolute gem on your hands. I grew up riding Yamahas in the '80s and owned an FJ1100, Virago 1000, RZ500 and a number of other bikes. Today, however, so much marketing is focused on planned obsolescence with people crapping on things when they reach 2 years of age. For the spec sheet warriors, the '87 FZR1000 still delivers impressive numbers. But more than that, it's a bad-ass time capsule that very few people will ever experience. Consider yourself lucky!! Enjoy the bike. I know I'm gonna love mine.

Have to agree with you. as a 50 year old... I owned a Rd350lC, RZ350, rz 250- TZR250 and a 1987 FZR1000. The FZR1000 demands full respect as it has enough usable power to punish if you don't. These days I have a triumph 675r but in all honestly the FRZ1000 wins for value performance and style. I wouldn't hesitate for a second to buy another good example of one. It's a absolute bargain.

The brake calipers don't like water,pistons seize solid. Be considerate on the box going from 1st to 2nd and back to 1st past neutral. The GSXR750 from pre 92 are better but more weight on the wrist. Don't underestimate the early FJ1200 either. I had an FZR1000 in '87 white and blue age 18. Traded in my RD500lc which was my first bike after taking my test. I now have a 26 year old Harley FXDL,poor image quality short of it on my channel. Love the one you're with.

I owned the FZR 750. I remember how I felt riding it back in the day. It was my first "big boys" bike. In Australia the law at the time was that you had to ride a 250cc bike for 12 months, then you could ride whatever you wanted. I remember selling my VT 250 Honda as soon as I could and getting the Yamaha. This video takes me back.

My first bike was a 2000 SV650S, semi-faired, carbed version. I had that bike for around 4 years and I did everything with it: commuting, weekend rides, long distance travel, trackdays etc. It was not without its issues, but yeah, I kind miss it sometimes. The bike, not the issues. Bikes then had curves and beautiful frames ^_^

there's something heartwarming about how this man has found _his_ bike, I hope to find mine one day too I'm not even into riding in a sporty manner but I love the colorful and passionate aesthetics with comfortable fairings, current designs seem too focused on appearing formal with dark colors and a naked look only concern though, how do vintage vehicles hold up after these decades? maybe it's tricky finding parts?
@SherKhan-b1kes3 ай бұрын
It’s not that difficult and I hope this helps; I differentiate between wear‘n‘tear items such as- clutch/brakes/gaskets/filters/fork-seals/screen and cycle-parts. All these are easily obtained because there’s different suppliers producing these. And then there’s original spare parts such as side-panels/fairing/tank/pistons w rings and motor parts. These are a bit more complicated and sometimes difficult. Bits can sometimes (not always!) be found in the internet and it’s luck finding the right colour. Patience is required because, it took me 3 years to find a part for my 1997 Honda Vfr750.

I rode this bike a lot and they are definitely a raw experience, something modern bikes don't have, but you will find yourself eventually deciding that you either have to dive in deep and source all the little bits that will ultimately need replacing, or sell it and get a modern'ish bike.

I'm a bit young for knowing vintage bikes and just recently got into them after riding a little Yamaha YBR 125 to see if motorcycles are really that fun but so far my A2 motorcycle searches found me a Suzuki GS500 Five Stars in purple with two round headlights that i wish i could show how good and well taken care of it looked but can't in YT comments and it got sold before i had a way to buy it. I'm still looking at cool older bikes not just in A2 range and so far i love the SRAD Suzukis and the Kawasaki ZXR 750 looks like a beast that really cares about how it looks with the liveries it has. For now tho I'll have to stay with my Daelim, fix a 1000€ RC 390 during winter (cheap because the engine did a KTM) learn how to ride sport bikes with that and just maybe by the time i get a proper A license they'll still be worth as much as a ZXR 750

@FreeMilesMC That's good, if only KTMs could say the same But I checked out of curiosity and there's 2 80' style headlights 600s for sale one of which is 1350€ and looks to be very loved by the owner 1991 white and red with blue accents no drops or scuffs registered as a A2 But the other one is the world tempting me to turn to the dark side 1988 red and white that lived a life of many many owners for 2800€ With a little ZXR 750 in black with a neon pink and purple livery under it for 2100€ Much better pricing on that white FZR and black ZXR , wonder if the red FZR will be up for as long as those 5000€ ZXRs are sitting (still not sold)

my comment would be, that i just by coincidence recently recalled very good how as a young child i was looking an the pictures of these sportbikes in a very specific cataloque (i can name year, month everything :-) ). Now recently i have recently gotten myself an old GSX-R 750 which for it´s age looks very modern and i will keep it, because i enjoy the rawness and few amount of electronic it has and i love working on it, but i must say, that if there would be more space to have an other motorcycle , it would either be a supercheap dirtbike to practize stuff i don´t dare to practize on more expensive motorcycles or an really old school looking bike like this on. man, i wouldn´t change a single thing, even the mirrors suit the look soooo soooo good. and yes, there is something about dual headlights, i share this fetish, hehe. what i also resonate with is your own way of looking at things and not following the beaten paths, which to me appear to be quit some in the topic of motorcycle GAS, features and performance "must haves". what i mean is, that i had a F650GS. and loved it. rode the crap out of it. 200.000km plus, and thou i received so many mean comments (like "girls bike" "driving license bike", "is this your first month of riding?","where´s your neon colored safety jacket?" ) , i just felt sorry for all these people and focused on what was true for me, and that was, that i loved to ride this bike quite much to its limits, i after a while just knew it sooo well, and also the working on it was so reasonable for me to keep it, because it wasn´t expensive, wasn´t too scary for my riding skills etc etc. i feel like there is so much joy to be gained from having the luck to pic and get to know a motorcycle that meets this criteria and let´s you do the riding without the bullshit extras you in the end don´t really need but surely pay in times like these now.

Design and style went out of fashion in the 2000's, everyone has now been persuaded to buy the same car so it's no wonder that old renault Four's are now changing hands for £10,000 +, some people have a need for their own style and the marketeers swoop down on any trend. Modern bikes are moving away from looking like bikes, KTM's look like a bag of chisels with two wheels attached, Ducati Diavel is a pig on wheels, modern retro style is obviously fake so the genuine retro scene is alive because of this and prices are rising as a result. I've been riding for over forty years now and have seen the changes forced upon the consumer through government legislation at the behest of their political donors. They want our old machines off the roads, hence ethanol in petrol to bugger up your carb internals on the pretext of saving the environment, yet they are quite happy to sell depleted uranium tipped weapons to ukraine and blow up the nordstream 2 pipeline and completely fuck up western european industry. I myself ride, not drive, you drive a car but you ride a bike so I ride a lightly customised 1988 Yamaha Vmax 1200 that I've had for 25 years. It's as fast as you want it to be, comfortable cruising and looks fantastic and I get lots of compliments on it wherever I go because it's different to anything else. I'm different from the normies, not better, just different so I say it with my bike, my clothes, my music, my art and my opinions.
