The Story of Rabiatul Adawiyah: How Muslimahs Get True God's Love! The story of Rabiatul Adawiyah (Rabi'ah) is one of the most inspiring stories for me! As a Muslimah, I (Inaya) get a lot of benefits from it. Rabi'ah was a very steady woman. Also sincerely worship Allah. So she is called the mother and teacher of Sufi women. Even many famous people are inspired by his life. Let me tell you the story of Rabiatul Adawiyah which made a big impression on me. You will also understand, the expression of God's love for man. Rabiatul Adawiyah's Life Background Rabi'ah was born in the city of Basrah, Iraq. Around the eighth century (713-717 AD). The background is full of suffering. Rabi'ah came from a poor family. Both of his parents died when he was young. So they have to learn to live independently with their three siblings. One time the city of Basrah experienced various natural disasters and drought. So Rabi'ah had to travel to survive. It was then that he was separated from all his siblings. Then caught a group of thieves. Then he was sold as a slave. But his suffering was not over. He got a bad master. He often experienced torment. In trouble Rabi'ah munajat. He asked God's help to set him free. If granted, then he will devote his life to worship. And finally he was released from his employer. I am very impressed with the story of Rabiatul Adawiyah. That she is a very steady fast woman. This is the reason I idolize him. Next, we can see the main inspiration in Rabi'ah's life. That is about the sincerity of worship to God. Sincerity of Worship Rabi'ah Rabi'ah became one of the pioneers who taught love. Namely that the basis of worship is love for God. Not out of fear of hell or wanting heaven. There are many famous quotes. one of them: “My God! If I worship out of fear of hell, then burn me with Your hell. If I worship because I hope to go to heaven, then forbid me from it! But if I worship only because of my love for You, then do not forbid me from seeing your beauty." This is also the goal of my life. That is trying to worship out of pure love for God! Rabi'ah's struggle to maintain the quality of worship Furthermore, Rabi'ah carried out the ascetic life. He stays away from worldly pleasures. In order to dedicate life to worship fully to Allah. Even Rabi'ah did not want to marry. Although he realized that marriage is part of the sunnah. The reason is because of fear of less than perfect worship. He asked several questions for those who proposed to him. “I'm worried about three things. If you can help her, then I will marry you." “Firstly at the time of death, is my faith solid or not? "Second, will I get a book of charity in the right hand (symbolizing a devout believer)?" "Third, will I belong to the people of heaven or hell?" This is the reason why no one can marry her. Because no one is able to provide a guarantee of safety in the afterlife. Knowing the story of Rabiatul Adawiyah is impressive but actually it also worries me. Because even though we try to be sincere, we as humans still want heaven too, right? If such a pious woman does not get the certainty of heaven. Moreover, I am a human being who has many drawbacks. There is no guarantee that God accepts human worship In my belief, people are taught to surrender. And do not know God's decision in the hereafter. “. . . then don't say yourself holy. He is the one who knows best about those who are pious” (Qs 53:32). As believers are advised to worship with fear. The goal is to continue to be motivated to do good. “. . . those who fast, pray and give alms, they are afraid that their deeds will not be accepted. They are the people who desire in goodness” (Tirmidhi Hadith No. 3099). Because indeed Allah could reject our good deeds. For example, if perforated fasting. However, for no good reason. So one year of fasting cannot replace it (Hadith of Abu Daud 2045). Or if someone sins by drunkenness. So praying 40 days cannot close it (Hadith of Ibn Majah No. 3368). In fact, one Islamic figure once said emphatically. “Don't be fooled by the many acts of worship that you have done. Because actually you don't know whether Allah accepts your practice or not” (Hasan al-Bashri). It is because of all these things that I, and many Muslimahs, are nervous! Indeed, we try to worship sincerely. But we also want to get to heaven even though there is no guarantee!! God Who First Loved Man My anxiety was answered when discussing with friends. His views on worship and the assurance of heaven are very interesting. My friend explained that indeed we need to worship because we love God. However, it actually started not from human effort. Because we are full of weaknesses. There is no way our love can be perfect. I can understand this. Because isn't this actually what Rabi'ah feels? At first he was able to worship because he was grateful to be free from his employer. My friend stated that God helps humans. In the first way He shows His love. “This is love: We did not love God, but God loved us. . . We love, because God first loved us” (Gospel, Letter 1 John 4:10,19). Isa Al-Masih The Embodiment of True God's Love The way God expresses His love is by sending Isa Al-Masih. He is the embodiment of God's love. If we have faith and become followers of Jesus, then God's forgiveness is available. His love that washes away all our sins. “God who loved us and sent His Son [Isa Al-Masih] as the atonement for our sins” (Gospel, Letter 1 John 4:10). Then God's love will fill our hearts. So that we will be able to worship properly. Unfortunately Rabi'ah did not know this. Because if he understands, then he will get peace. That his worship will surely be accepted by Allah through Jesus. This is how humans get the power to love sincerely. That is by first receiving the love that God gives. I am very impressed with this explanation. Because it gives an answer to my heart's anxiety all this time. Therefore I ask the Readers. “Will you accept God's true love? Let's have faith and become followers of Isa Al-Masih! Then you will be sure to get guaranteed heaven hereafter!”
