What is the thickness of the metal and the safety factor of the assembly?

If you make it freestanding with a frame - home made like some people do - would support beams interfere with any of the problems? By the way - this system looks incredibly awesome, would be perfect for a parking garage setup at home - how much flex does the system get without support beams?
