Yeah, I really like the idea of having the tarp under the poles. You can simply change the direction of the shelter by simply Rolling it around. Misjudge the direction on the wind or rain? Simply roll the shelter around so it’s coming from the back. Change the pitch of the shelter in a flash as needed. I would recommend pushing the tripods into the ground tightly as you can for extra stability should the weather get nasty…

I do a 12’x12’ version but it makes a huge tent for one person and a very comfortable tent for two people. I also made curtains for the front that makes a little mud room vestibule for packs, dirty boots and general storage. In hot weather I open up the foot of the thing and open up the front somewhat. That allows for natural convection to keep the fresh air flowing.

Great video. I used this setup last night. I was looking for different ways to set up my 10 ×10 aqua quest, and I ran across your video. Quick, easy and because I constructed the frame on my property it's there for my next outing. Great job. Thank you.

I really prefer method 2 myself. Isn't it awesome this time of year to get out the oilskin tarps and the wool blankets! I got my Tentsmith's 8 x 8 out the other night. I can't wait to get it out to camp! Good demo as always Dan.

Very nice! That's a deluxe setup if you can find the right poles. I've been experimenting with other plow point setups that use shorter poles and hoping to make a video soon after testing my ideas bit more.

Wouldn’t the ridge pole be stronger if it was above the two side poles and leaning its weight onto them?

Over site: didn't mention that the opening should be on the down wind side. Put a Dakota fire pit at the front to keep warm and smoke free inside
@frozenhorse86954 жыл бұрын
For the first method, i would cut of the long pole, so i wouldn't have to set it to the side, just slightly shorter that the tarp, and get it more airtight. But i liked both mothods. Thanks for sharing.

I like option #2 better. Option #1 supports the tarp really well and would be great for snow, but it looks like rain would run down the pole onto you.
@uncasnetewateweslenape23836 жыл бұрын
I agree, however one could tie a-several "mouse tail" ( larks head or single overhand knot) drip lines to direct any precipitation to the ground out front instead of inside on you or your gear...
@southernrockiesselfreliance6 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't the bottom pole be better suited on top of the other two? That way friction of the rope and friction of the poles both hold it up.
@MrSheckstr6 жыл бұрын
matt larance perhaps putting it on top makes it harder to adjust the height when you go to widen out the side poles?

Being pedantic here but the longest pole would have both shorter poles supporting it if it were on top, instead of hanging off the bottom like it is.

Opening goes on downwind side and if weather gets real bad you lower the side poles and adjust your corners out to lower entire profile.
