I’m 59 and grew up skateboarding in her era and recall her name. After a long hiatus raising a family and having a long career with the courts in the latter half of the 80’s through just a few years ago, I returned to skateboarding, only now it’s mellower banks on a “surfskate” board, where the specially designed trucks allow for much more fluid, surf-like movement. Great, inspirational video and retrospective.

I love your story. I am a Valley Girl myself. I grew up in North Hollywood since the 60’s. Skateboarding was so much fun back in the 70’s when I was a teenager. I would love to get back on a skateboard. Maybe one day I might try.

Michelle, I remember you in our teenage years at our high school, your athleticism, your drive, and your beauty was an inspiration then. What a pleasure to see your video and know that people our age, who subscribed to fitness and enjoying being alive have done so with such vigor and flair. Warmest Regards-- Helen Corallo

Whoa!! She's so inspirational, so cool. How many of today's female skaters owe this woman a huge debt ? Lacey Baker, Nora Vasco cellos, Vanessa Torres, Nicole Hause ?

My personal feeling as a "male" skateboarder is that, if anything, we owe the women a huge debt... for not giving them the respect, honor, and legacy they deserved in their own time. Thankfully it is finally changing. And, ironically, a lot of men are now realizing that the grace/balance of freestyle is an incredibly important foundation to all other forms of skating. No culture can survive without honoring the feminine, as equal and vital to our evolution, and I mean that quite literally.

Those world championship contests you entered, were you competing in the professional division? Or Factory sponsored division? Skateboard contests back then still had world championship contests for each division. Also did you skate in demos while getting paid to skate in them?
