In this tutorial video I am going to disregard all the rules of 3D modeling regarding preparation, references, polycount, UV layout etc. I am just going to start to model and see where this will take me. This is a creative test as should be seen as such.

nice tutorial, thanks man :) but I have a problem, when I extrude (what is that shortcut you use for it, it doesnt work in my maya) and click R the whole floor moves (and the face that I want to move is selected). please help!

I cant select 2 face at the same time in my laptop ..if i scroll to select the roof it select downside too.. but i tried to select manually one by one for exrude but failed to select 2 side at the same time.. what to do?

So how would you texture that building? I made a more realistic building for a project for school and all the faces that were extruded made the brick pattern stretch and look really bad. We just started learning how to texture so I'm a bit confused but I'll get the hang of it. Love your vids btw man! I just started watching a couple weeks ago and I have already learned a lot from you.

caleb brown I know your comment is old but you would have to UV map it first and then work on textures and then position them how you want them.

Mike, I have a request. Can you do a tutorial on how to animate a pen writing on paper? Also, what do you think of Maya 2017? Is it worth it to upgrade from 2016? Edit: Another question. It's about rigging. I watched a tutorial and the person was putting the joints into groups. From what I understood, it's a further improvement of the rig (like adding more joints). Isn't it possible to unbind the joints from the skin and modify the mesh and the then weight paint them again?

Writing with a pen is an effect ( like post comp ) so not ( Maya ) modeling or animation. As for the upgrade, not really. No huge changes ( plus you will loose Mental Ray )
