06:05 - Really great to see the UCS breakdown example to help more people become aware of it, and maybe plan their sound libraries better. Fun video about the mic set ups. This really is a very cautious job. The amount of preparation and planning that goes into it is just brilliant!

Don't forget you have apps to control the sound devices and Tascam (when you get the BT adapter for the X8) so you don't have to run around!! -- awesome, the DMS set up is just sublime how dynamic and beefy it sounds -- love this!!! so cool you two!!

My favorites were the description of the line between success and failure, and hearing the environment that allows me to visualize a space even if my eyes were closed. And Libby, great editing and use of cropping to highlight the sound. Chin Chin!

The best chance for a Thai train to be on time is at the origin station it departs from. After that they will be late by mins or hours! Also very slow and very cheap, a great way to travel around Thailand if you have the time.

The sounds that the Ambisonic mic picked up was quite unique. I could easily imagine it as some sort of epic sci-fi sound. The way the low frequencies fade in, followed by high frequency contrast all with musicality, 😁 wow.

I love the Schoeps DMS, the Rode NT-SF1 ambisonic, and the Tascam results...but I think we have to give a big cheer for the very good results captured by the humble Zoom H1N (it is a great backup!). This new series is very entertaining and informative. The BTS style shows just how many obstacles there are to overcome when making quality recordings.

Wow you seemed to be encouraging and welcoming people into the business. I'm interested. I don't have much, but what I have is truly enough to get started. Hahaha I only have 3 mics! Sony 77b, Octavia MK 12, & Rode NTK. The NTK has a power supply, so the portable AC battery I got for Christmas now became more useful 😁. So thanks for the encouragement, I should start having fun.

I hate to sound needy or high maintenance but I think it would be super useful to know what your settings are on the recording samples you give. The gain levels at absolute minimum would be super useful to me and probably others. I'm learning as I go and often wonder if/when I should be lowering my gain in certain situations and with certain equipment. Your gain setting on the Mix Pre and Schoeps setup would be a super helpful thing to know. This is a fantastic video and reminds me of myself running around trying to turn on microphones and multiple cameras all by myself on location. Even worse now that I just got a drone. Keep up the great work. Also I still don't understand how you use metadata on your sound files. Can you search metadata tags on spreadsheets or is there specific software you use? I will go back and watch your earlier videos on this topic again to see if I can find this info but if you wanted to create a 'for dummies' version of this question with answers then that would be just about my speed. Looking forward to the next video!

I’m a production sound mixer so I am very interested in the sounds you record. But I must say the video quality Libby and you get and the editing of the show and the music is so beautiful and stunning that the sound is sort of secondary to me 😀. I think with only small changes you could sell these videos to The Travel Channel or Discovery Channel. Regarding the train sound, the train is remarkably quiet seems to me, I’m used to a huge blast of sound from American trains. This train is rather more civilized by comparison. I thought I heard clipping from the Geophon track.

Do you have a video that kind of describes what is adequate for a sound library? :) For example: How long should it be? How many files should be in there. I'd like to see one of the sound libraries you did in a day and what was in it so I have an idea, for example for all house sounds, could that be a sound library?

how do you like the Tascam x8 in comparison to the Sony D100 ? A used Sony d100 goes for about $1,000 , so a Tascam x8 makes a bit more sense economically speaking.

Regrets about going with the tascam x8 or have you become comfortable/satisfied with it over time? I'd REALLY love to see an updated h5 or h6 with guts from the f3/f6, and a decent screen for watching levels. Like the h6 screen but on a swivel would be fantastic. Anyway, I'm in the market for my first recorder and you make a solid case for the f6 and the h1n. As a complete novice, the 32 bit safety net feels awfully attractive, and the ambisonic capability is awesome, but that's a huge investment up front (f6 plus mics, plus ambisonic mic). The x8 is also really attractive. My needs are spoken word for video and voiceover, some singing, and I'd LOVE to try what you do with capturing some ambient sound. I imagine the h1n is probably not ideal for capturing vocal tracks, so I'm looking real hard at the f6 and the x8. The case you make repeatedly about the ease and speed with the handy recorders is pretty strong. Thank you so much for your channel and knowledge, you guys are amazing and your production quality is truly top notch.
