Definitely, if there is an option of clicking the like button 1 million times, I would do it! The ships, the birds, the bridge, the water, the tunnel, the sand, the perfect music, the gorgeous sky. You can't get better than that. A positive chill and excitement and a positive goosebump ran through me, absolutely amazing! Outstanding job there! I love it and am spoiled!

Love the somewhat melancholy feel of this song combined with the low clouds rolling in over the bay! I went to college in the Hampton Roads area, and this song is like a perfect anthem to play in my head as I fondly remember peaceful rainy days at the beach. And the wonderful smell of the tall pines in the humid summer air ....

I was actually on the CBBT just a couple days ago as I drove down from Michigan to Virginia and Maryland (and back) for the holiday weekend. I drove north on it last Saturday morning on my way up to St. Michaels, MD as well as to Annapolis (I enjoyed driving over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge too). It was definitely a spectacular drive. Well, you definitely weren't kidding about having some great things in store for your replacement video of the CBBT. This goes down as one of your top 5 or 10 best edited videos. As for the footage...this is pretty darn awesome stuff. This really does feel like you're driving over an ocean, not just a lake or a bay. I've never experienced going "head first" toward a massive ship, out in open waters...of course, in this case, you were dipping into an undersea tunnel. That had to be a real sight to behold. I also enjoyed the detour and footage of the waters of the Chesapeake Bay, and the footage at dusk with the sunset and vibrant colors added such a brilliant touch to this. I'm sharing this on my FreewayBrent Facebook fan page. Well deserved recognition for this one!

Freewayjim How many trips did you end up going up and down the bridge? I'm assuming you used the turnarounds at the overlook on the Eastern Shore just past the toll booths and the pier after the southern tunnel to make the repeated trips?
@Freewayjim10 жыл бұрын
Rick's Travelogue We turned around 2 times at the scenic overlook before the toll booth on the north end and once at island #1.
@RicksTravelogue10 жыл бұрын
Freewayjim Very nice. That's one of the best ways to stretch your $13 toll. No need for the 24 hour return discount with that.
@RicksTravelogue9 жыл бұрын
***** As long as you don't pass the toll booths on the other side, you have spots where you can legally turn around and drive the other side. I never have done that, because the bridge usually marks the end of a 11 hour journey and we're longing for the hotel room by then.
@redman665710 жыл бұрын
Great work as always Jim! This is definitely one of my favorite classic bridges/tunnels in North America. It's amazing how it can survive through such harsh weather during hurricane season! Reminds me of when my family went to OBX, NC in 2012. Can't wait to drive this in ~6 months when I upgrade from a permit to a license! Looks like this bridge needs some resurfacing soon though. There's only so much crack-filler a bridge can take! In my opinion, the fact that the toll revenue isn't keeping this wonder in tip-top shape is adding salt to a wound.

That was a nice ride Jim, I had driven across the (CBBT), once late at night going north, but we couldn't see anything except for the road ahead. Almost at the end, DOT shut down the south bound side for maintenance and all traffic was diverted to north bound lanes, via a Virginia state trooper shuttling traffic back and forth. Would love to drive it during day time. Great job....

This road is amazingly tranquil as it hovers over the Chesapeake. When approaching from the opposite side, you can barely see any land on the other shore, with a fat and happy seagull claiming their own street light pole as their sole turf.

Those ferry boats you mentioned was later acquired by the Delaware River and Bay Authority, becoming the Cape May-Lewes Ferry (rode it twice). To this day, there is still debate to replace it with a Delaware Bay version of the CBBT, a suspension bridge, or a cable-stayed bridge (as the Philadelphia Navy Yard is now closed, a bridge can now be an option).

Jim, you call it one of the most spectacular driving experiences....? I call it one of the most horrible, frightening experiences of my life. I drove across the bridge in the early 80s. It was one lane! And I may be wrong, but I seem to remember that when I looked down, it was not paved - there was this sort of grill work and you could see the water right beneath you. Could that be right? Or is my memory distorted due to having had such a terrifying panic attack that I couldn't breathe? There was nowhere to pull over, and I couldn't stop because if cars were behind me, I would have held up the whole thing. I felt TRAPPED! It went on and on and on forever -- I forget how many miles long you said it is. Before I even looked at the video, I was thinking about taking a tranquilizer! :) But as always, you did a great job.
@Freewayjim10 жыл бұрын
Of course it was paved back then, it's never been just a grill for a road surface. It is 17.6 miles long. Thank you :) at least now there is that extra lane each way except for the tunnels.

Hey FreewayJim do you have any plans to make long distance (and I mean long long distance) videos like BarbiePoleDancer does anytime soon? They would be awesome, but I can see that syncing them with all the signs and info and stuff for such a long duration would be a lot of tedious work.
@Freewayjim10 жыл бұрын
No I do not, I think those videos are pointless and aren't very entertaining and lose most viewers within the first 5-10 minutes. The longest video I ever did is of I60 Miles of I-70 west of Denver last summer (Video 13-60), unless a road is that spectacular it would only hold an appeal for a very few people, and even at the 27 minutes my video was I think that's pushing the limits of most people's attention span for something like that.

That's really kind of you, thanks, lame music? You do realize there isn't a single song I could use that would please everyone. The newer southbound lanes are obviously so much nicer with the break-down lane. You aren't kidding about how the pop charts have changed over the years. Parents of 12-year old girls should make them spend their allowances on something besides i-Tunes...lol.

I have a question Jim (and you don't have to answer if you'd rather not) but I've always wondered how you, and Brent, Click, and all these other "freeway video" people afford the gas to do all this driving! LOL! How do you afford it??
@Freewayjim10 жыл бұрын
I really don't know how to answer that other than we have jobs/careers that allow us to afford the excess driving we do. In my case I really don't travel much outside of my one major trip a year.
@tall32guy9110 жыл бұрын
Ok gotcha. But I am curious, though, if you don't travel other than once a year then why are there so many videos (even recently) of you driving in places other than Atlanta? lol
@Freewayjim10 жыл бұрын
***** in previous years we took an overnight trip to someplace within a 8 hour drive of Atlanta around spring break (2013 was Cincinnati, Louisville, Nashville), I did not do that this year. Driving around Atlanta is not a big deal really. When I take the one big trip I plan it to get as many interesting areas along the way...really the driving and sightseeing IS the vacation. In other words I make the most out of my time on the road. So if I'm going to NH like I did this year, I'll get as much as I can along the way to and from and usually take different routes as to avoid overlap.
