New York City: FDR Drive - Dusk to Dark

Follows FDR Drive southbound along the East River across to the Battery Tunnel exit.

There's something oddly comforting about cities at night. All the cars, the lights, the nightlife; it shows you that people are working, living, and having fun all around you, at a time that is supposed to be hostile towards humans; nighttime. And having people all around you is the best feeling in the world. Cities aren't dystopian concrete jungles, they're beautiful places where humans from all backgrounds come together.

Good Ol' New York City.FDR Drive is so beautiful. This is more to the city than the tourist hotspots of Midtown Mahattan and the craziness and jungle like enviorment of lower Mahatten.

I love FDR Drive, it’s just so fun and pretty to drive on, It just feels so nice. I read a few reviews from out of state people, who said to watch out for the speed demons on the road. LOL!

This is serious white-knuckle driving. And I've always loved this song for driving. It's great for high speed, particularly if there are expansion joints, which the FDR seems to have an abundance of.

Haha, June 15th is my birthday! NYC is a seriously cool city. Last time I vistied, I walked from the UN building right round the bottom half of the island and up again to 34th street on the west side along the parks and tracks etc, and I spent half my time watching traffic on the FDR, taking photos of the bridges and the piers, the Staten Island Ferry was good fun too, and it was Hallowen 2008, anyone remember it was unseasonably warm? Thanks for the trip down memory lane, made my evening!

Don't know what makes the former American International Building (70 Pine St.) so interesting to me. It just is. Only was in New York a couple times in back in '03. Tried to con my way into the A.I. building to get to the glass rotunda observation deck to get some photo's of ground zero, but to no avail. I could be wrong but I think it's the narrowest building over 900 feet. One of NYC's last Art-Decos.

It used to make such an impact in the 1930's and I'd suggest all the way till the 70's until that glass block joined in.

NYC is an old city. The subways are among the oldest in the world. Many other cities have newer subway systems. Plus considering how hectic the city is and the lack of space, it is difficult to completely upgrade the roads and subways.

FDR Drive sure is a busy parkway in Manhattan. It even reaches one of the Top 5 busiest highways in NYC as the Cross Bronx Expressway is ranked #1.
