Like most people below this represents part of my teenage years. It is simply wonderful to go back. Southern did so many great series for young people including How? And Country Boy. From the excitement of Freewheelers to life in a much simpler times in Country Boy. Thank you for posting and reviving memories.

I've just been transported back 40 years, first time I've heard that theme tune in a long, long time. In my memory it was always quicker - I suppose time really does fly when you enjoy yourself!

I was in Auckland at that time but I have no memory of it on NZBC at all! Remember it on telly in England before we went to Auckland.

Yes, great memories, I recall The Jensen Code and Timeslip on New Zealand TV in 1974. I've since got the DVDs for those plus Tightrope. A great shame Freewheelers isn't available. I recall Freewheelers on NZ TV in 1969. and a series of it screened in 1982. It was about art forgers. Always wanted to see it again. The theme tune was very memorable. Never forgotten it!

Im reasonably sure its the old end theme to 'World in Action' called 'private eye' by another great tv composer called Laurie Johnson. So glad the dvd has been released along with 'Escape into night' and 'The Jensen code' - They dont make them like that anymore, sadly.

I've never been fortunate enough to see this show but I do wish they could have shown more of Wendy in the credits!

Only one second of Wendy, doh! & she's hugged me in real life.

Yes, that was a real shame, I can remember a few of them from back then, the one that really stands out was the story when I think two of the Freewheelers were trapped by some villains in this big pipe or tunnel, they cemented them in it, can't remember exact details but it gave me nightmares and I was sure glad when they got out :D

Yes, dit is De Vrijbuiters! Waarin ze op een gegeven moment in Amsterdam zijn en Sue voor het eerst van haar leven een flesje 'Sisi fruchtenlemonade' drinkt. Classic!

That would be Escape Into Night made in 1972. It was adadpted for the screen by my friend Ruth Boswell from Catherine Storr's novel, Marianne Dreams. It was made into a film called Paperhouse in 1988. The serial DOES still exist but only as B&W, 16mm film recordings - the colour tapes having been wiped some time ago.

The final two series in colour also exist and are available on dvd.

Hey Djoezzz, me too. Was wondering if this was De Vrijbuiters, waar ze altijd een of ander zinnetje hadden in de trant van (fonetisch) Calling Bies calling B's ...over?! (B's or misschien 'Base'?

Any one know what the music used at the END of each epesode of the programme is called.
@jacksugden81903 күн бұрын
So if this wasn’t the KPM version of Teenage Carnival with that drum beat, then what version did Southern Television use please?.
@SteveSputnik2 күн бұрын
The version of Teenage Carnival used as the Freewheelers' theme was edited anyway. The drum roll was used to cover an awkward edit and was probably added by one of Southern TV's sound editors.

amazing-i remember that bit too and thinking he was going to die !!-and at the start of the next episode he was freed
@FaultyDog6 жыл бұрын
What bit are you referring to? The original question/remark seems to have disappeared. But was there by any chance a scene where one of the boys gets chained to a wall and is left to drown (with the tide coming in and all)...? I distinctively remember seeing such a particular scene - I found it terrifying to watch!
