I know i'm late to the party but was busy .....................Impressive! I respect the industry and how hard it is to make a decent flying and fair priced RC aircraft. The sheer cost is staggering to get a company this size started. WoW! People are always making statements alluding to how things can be done better, they need to spend a day doing some of this work. The paint is awesome. I got my T-33 today and very impressive plane, can't wait to fly it. I would love to shadow Mr. Alpha for one week and take it all in. To repair my plane I goto Lowes to get it matched in latex and it is usually a very close match. I am very happy with the products MotionRC has supplied to me. That F-14 is awesome. One thing this reveals the price isn't as dependent on the size of the model it's just a little more foam....
@MotionRC4 жыл бұрын
Not true at all. Electronics change, box size, so many factors involved. This was a glance
@sector7offshore4 жыл бұрын
@@MotionRC how does the size increase the part count needing more factory locations small or large your part count comes from how the model is designed.... I understand there will be a little internal bracing and you'll have a large fan/motor maybe some higher torque servos but most everything else is going to be similar enough to not match the added~$200 going from a 70 sized model to a 90
@alphamrc3094 жыл бұрын
Larger mold frame, higher cost per pull, more sub-assembly parts. Also, more engineering time since larger and heavier means faster and more dangerous, so longer testing regimen with more involved mathematical modeling. Component cost is significant, considering a 70mm bird with eight 9g plastic servos versus a 90mm bird with 10+ servos most of which are 17g DMG and upwards of 25g, plus wiring harnesses, lighting, etc. Also, larger planes use different hinges which are more complex to assemble (captive hinge with nylon hinges and sheathed foam cover, meaning more mold space). Larger planes foam and plastic weight is higher, billed per gram, and larger surface area of the aircraft means larger copper paint masks, and usually more surface area of decal sheets, often waterside and vinyl (separate printers) with higher MOQs billed per sheet. Some 90mms have four times more sheets than a 70mm. Plus the larger box size leads to fewer models per container and larger box size/weight leads to higher shipping cost. Not to mention the lower proportion of common parts which means slower amortization rate. Everything adds up.
@jeffarab49474 жыл бұрын
I think 80 mm should be max for size price and also the way they fly 70mm to 80mm is a excellent size for power and fun with it
@marcoreviews2 жыл бұрын

Thanks for this tour. Its amazing how much it must cost for the design and tooling of each foam plane. Has Freewing considered making larger foam planes for turbines? I have a few HSD Jets and love them but it seems that Freewing is larger and could offer a larger verity of Turbine Jets and the quality is very good.

Most of the time when I buy an RC airplane. I spend more time stripping the decals and paint off the plane. One for weight purposes. I can careless about a realistic paint job. Two, if I do want it painted. I usually have my own idea of what I want my plane to look like.
@lorneh62323 жыл бұрын
One thing I didn’t see asked was how complex is the process of getting the license from the original aircraft manufacturer? Have aircraft manufactures stood firm on this? Obviously Fock wolf wouldn’t seek such agreements so is it more favourable to market older aircraft.
@briankmavpro52464 жыл бұрын
Now we just need to buy these as a kit form. Not glued together so we can paint, mod the way we want.

There should be a way to chemically develop a stronger foam material that has some elasticity rubber like properties. The light but denser and flexible foam materials used in the automotive Industry should be looked at for producing stronger foam aircraft.
@MotionRC4 жыл бұрын
I'm sure it's been looked at by all the foam aircraft manufacturers but probably not cost-effective in the amounts used within our small industry compared to the auto-industry which I have to assume is 100's if not 1000's times larger. Push come to shove though, when your product is moving 60mph and above whether its a foam, balsa or composite aircraft, it's not going to survive a majority of crashes just like an automobile. There are probably good reasons why all manufacturers of foam-aircraft have settled on EPO as the best option for now

I consider it "pre-shading". Most modelers go very heavy in dark shades along panel lines and high wear areas. Airbrush the top gray over that A-10 to bring it all together and down a notch in intensity, and the final result will be satisfyingly realistic.

Absolutely. All of this effort over 18-24 months is just to get to the START of mass production. Then we need to actually produce them, package, ship, receive feedback, make adjustments if/as needed, and on and on for years. Meanwhile juggling the process for different models at different stages along that timeline. It's not easy, but it is fun!
