The wing market has grown dramatically over the past few years, and 2022 has seen more wings, from more brands, at all price points than ever before. But the FreeWing GO is the first wing to hit the market with performance, practicality and a good price point.
The Go wing is from the brand FreeWing which is a collaboration brand between Airush (kite brand) and Starboard (SUP ,Windsurf, Foil brand). Together they are focusing on making wings for every rider at every level. Their FreeWing Air V1 has already proven itself in our wing test, winning 'Best Getting Started Wing' for 2021.
FreeWing have taken what they have learnt with the Air V1 & V2 to produce the GO. The GO is a wing designed for a wide range of wing disciplines and abilities. It is a very well priced wing from a main brand, so there's no doubt that this new GO wing is going to get many people learning to wing, and progressing on the water this year.

Looks promising. I would like to foil eventually but it's all expense. This appeals to start with a bit of touring on an existing iSUP until I can afford to go for a foil.

Glad you are thinking of getting into foiling. Yes, it's an expensive sport but you can always try second hand gear. Winging with your SUP is a great way to explore and also get the feeling for using a wing. All the best! Beau

Great review. I'm looking at getting one these wings this year. I'm currently 100kg 6ft 2 tall. Experienced paddle boarder 5+ years, used to windsurf. Would I be better with the 5.5 or 6.5 to start wing foiling? I guess the 6.5 will be better to get going, but maybe more sluggish once moving and gybing? Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks, Toby

Hey Toby, Sorry for the delay on getting back. I would say at your weight go for the 6.5m . Your tall so the bigger wing wont be as much of a problem when you are not on the foil , like it could do for shorter riders. And also when you get into it you could jump down onto a small 4. or 4.5m wing when it gets windy. This would be a good quiver eventually. Of course the 5.5 m would still work but you would need more wind to get up, and from our experience most riders over 90kg are always wanting more power when they start off, because they're not as efficient. I really hope this helps sorry again all the best Reuben

Hey Reuben, thanks for your advice. Yeah 6.5 definitely seems the way to go for starters and then going smaller. Thanks 👍

I've had my 3.5 Go around a month now and it has become my 'go-to' wing! I'll use a bigger foil in lighter winds, but love the compact shape. Great with a surf skate too!!

What do you guys think of having two fill valves instead of one and a tube connecting the center strut? I like the idea of them being independent incase one valve fails or that tube fails or breaks
@SUPboardermag
@SUPboardermag 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah there is a safety factor. But I really like 2 valves, just so much quicker to deflate. I'm also testing some other wings now as well and they take so much longer to deflate unless they are setup with another dump valve! Thanks Reuben

How you would recover a board and partially inflated wing to shore?

Got smashed a couple of times this last week on my 5.3 Naish S25 in high winds. Looking to maybe get one of these in 3.5 or 4.5. How have you found them flagged out on waves?
@SUPboardermag
@SUPboardermag 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Simon. TBH I haven't had them out in the waves that much really. But when flagging and pumping with the foil on the flat they work fine. I don't see any reason with there shape that they wont work well in the surf. Could be a good cheaper price point smaller wing. Thanks Reuben

A bit late to the party, but being around 190cm and 106 kgs what size wing do you recommend? I used to surf and I currently paddle board, so looking to get into all sorts of wing related stuff. I am down on the south coast in Dorset, so windy, but not too windy.

Never too late! You could go for a 6.5m and it will get you up in the lighter winds but if you are wanting to play around with your SUP or get into winging as a windy alternative to SUP the 5.5m could be a good move. Thanks Reuben

I am 88kg dry, wing and trying to gybe with 2000cm2 foil. For getting up in light winds do you think the 6.5m Go will gain me over 5.3m Naish S26? Very good review

Hey Steven. I would say the s26 is a pretty powerful wing. I don't think it would worth the upgrade. Or I'm not 100% sure , I haven't used the 6.5. Go. and sometimes as I have mentioned in the Wing series (we have on KZbin) using a smaller wing effectively to pump can get you up in the same amount of wind has a bigger wing. Does that make sense? Thanks Reuben

I am looking for an extra wing for light wind. Which wing should I get: the Freewing GO 6.5m (newer) or Freewing Air V2 7m (currently cheaper)?

SUPboarder I love my 3.5 and have 5&6m WASPS, but prefer the GO. Enjoying small wing, big foil at the moment!
