Freewing Twin 64mm F-14 Tomcat Maiden Flight & Grass Ops!

The F14 is still my favorite jet to look at. There's just something about the Tomcat. I was stationed in San Diego for about 20 years for work. I drove past the MCAS at Miramar at least twice a day. In the early 2000's they were still flying Tomcats there. It was like a daily airshow. Thanks for stirring those memories. That's a nice model you've got there. Happy flying amigo. 🍻

Wow! Great maiden, well spaced turns, fantastic grass landing and thoughs swept wings look amazing. I would love to move on to jets one day. As you can see I fly warbirds over the White Cliffs of Dover, England. The smile on your face at the end says so much. Happy flying my friend, I would love to know how much juice you had left ! One of the best flight I have seen on this new F14 I must say. Now you can see how good this new f14 flies when you set it up right and take it a little easy. And it seems that it is no wind either and that seems to help a lot. Not all planes like windy conditions and this one looks like it is one of them, calm days seems to be the key here and she can fly this good. Then I know that you are a really good pilot as well and that helps of course :-) Keep up the good work! Greetings from Sweden

Based on some other maiden flights of this 64mm F-14, I'm wondering how it does with flaps, both half and full. There is at least 1 report of an asymmetric wing sweep causing a crash. Are the wing sweep ball links and connecting rods solid? There's also the concern of flaps causing the wing sweep to bind if the flaps are not UP when sweeping aft. Does the included 'MIX BOX' take care of that automatically or must it be programmed?

A lot of problems I’ve seen are from poor setup and pilot error. Everything on the plane is pretty solid and well built. The wing sweep ball links and connecting rods seem to be strong and I haven’t had any issues yet with anything mechanical. You should be flaps up when sweeping the wings so I’m not sure why a lot of pilots blame it on the plane when it’s clearly pilot error if you forget to put them up after takeoff. Pilots could probably program some flap features in to avoid this issue but I don’t see it necessary. Hope this helped a little, if you have any other questions feel free to ask! Yes, you could program it to a spectrum but you will have to bypass the stock board in the plane. It will require a lot of programming.

It’s not small, but it’s small enough to look weird next to your 1500mm freewing models. It really only has two problems: it’s noticeably smaller than your typical 8s, and there’s no co pilot. Everyone had the same issues with the 8s: it flies awful, it’s 1kg too heavy, it takes $150 of battery, and the landing gear is fragile. The 60mm has none of those issues, plus it has the Jolly Roger livery, and it only takes a single 6s, and the battery bay is large enough for a 6s 10,000ma battery which will provide 10mins of flight. This is the fastest selling thing on motionRC and for good reason. I’m picking one up in July, because I have a rule that I must maiden my first jet before buying another. I’m waiting to maiden my f22 with more than $600 of upgrades. You can’t just take a 150mph jet to just any park, and I live within airspace of an airport, so all flight is limited to 60m. My f22 is capable of 10m/s and can exceed the altitude limit without trying.
