Great video. I love my freeze dryer! As an HVAC tech i have an above average understanding of how/why freeze dryers work. Heating the trays is super important to the process. Im a huge fan of 'air flow' however i feel like the screens on the trays will drastically reduce the heat applied to the food on the trays thus slowing down the whole process. I may be wrong? Im curious if you did a test of with and without the screens how it would affect the dry time? Maybe an idea for a future video?

Great information, tools perhaps required and things that you have discovered helps your productivity. I have a weird question. No one has showed what happens to the water extracted, how warm does the room get, would it benefit using heat extraction in the room and vent it somewhere (we’re thinking into a greenhouse.). Everyone usually shows the food side, I have yet to see one of oil changes, etc. (I saw one video where they discuss oil vs oil free - which as someone exploring the idea of of machines - was an eye opener. :) Thanks for sharing!

Had you ever thought of using a pizza crust or pastry docking tool. That tool has rows of spikes and a handle. They are not spaced as closely as the gadget you are showing, but are only a fraction of the price.

Nice video; one quick question though, aren't you conflating the calyx of the strawberry with the leaves of it? Leaves are grown from the plant and power the growth of the strawberry, but the green 'cap' on the back of a strawberry is basically just protective roughage; I don't think it'd have the same nutritional content as the actual leaves.

Many of us have an apple peeler that peels, slices and cores apples simultaneously two cuts with paring knife per apple and you are done. Most people don't enjoy the apple skin and it may not be safe to eat if the apples are not organic.

Interesting video. I’m seeing a movement trend in stocking food for emergency’s which is why I’m here. There seems to be a social concern of food piling stores and freeze dried foods from all my research has come up trumps compared to dehydrated products. I looked for online bulk suppliers and there’s just not enough substantial products to order from especially for large families or households with large numbers. And what is available is sporadic and not versatile for variation and interesting menu plans. That’s concerning so I’ve decided to try doing it myself, why not?. Your video was extremely insightful thank you! If I may suggest with your method prep for apples… Could you use an apple corer prior to using the potato fry chipper? Would cryo-vacuuming be effective for packaging to store produce? Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for all your tips too🧐 🙌

If ur doing pre frozen just thaw them put 100%, then rinse them, tray them (pre freeze in your freeze if u want) or just put em right in ur freeze dryer and they turn out 100% perfectly and saves u hours upon hours of prep time

If I understand correctly, if you put your apples in the freezer right away, then they don't turn brown without any citric acid? I would think the air in the freezer would turn them brown

May I ask, is it then possible to use a dehydrator to freeze dry? Like freeze my fruit separately and then transfer it to the dehydrator?
@freezedriedbusiness7 ай бұрын
That's a completely different preservation method. Dehydration is removing all water through heat. Freeze-drying is the process of sublimation which is taking the water from a solid to a gas. Dehydration take it from a solid to liquid to gas which is why you get a rubber based end product

Does your fruit come apart easily when you have them overlapping like that? I’ve been pre freezing in single layers first, then pile them on my FD trays (up to about 2 lbs). It takes a lot of time to do that, but maybe I don’t need to.
@freezedriedbusiness8 ай бұрын
Yes they do come apart easily. For the strawberries you have to be a little delicate but you can break them apart for sure and usually they do anyway once you put them in a storage container
