That was a great wildcamp Rachel. I've not camped out but am looking to cook on a Peak, so I'd be interested to know what the better rehydrated meals are. The trouble is curry is a very individual taste. I'd probably try the carbonara first. But as always, I really enjoyed this one, Rachel. Thanks for sharing.
@ramblingracheltrailtales11 ай бұрын
The Adventure Food carbonara is very nice. It was better than the chicken curry, the curry was just ok, not awful. It was a good sized portion too. 😊 Thanks Chris. I look forward to seeing you out cooking in the Peaks. X

Yes, as others have mentioned, powdered milk is meant to be converted to milk first by adding water and stirring or shaking vigorously. Never put it directly into a hot drink. Coffee Mate is a powdered CREAMER and is meant to go directly into your coffee. Pair your lumpy experience with the instant chicken curry, and I'm likely to decline a dinner invitation. 😂 However, you did a great job with setting up camp so efficiently but wish you had a ground sheet. Using the tent pegs for the tangier was brilliant! I've watched a few YT videos where very experienced (male) campers have forgotten the mounting apparatus too, and they were without hot food/drink for their entire camp. Overall, good job! Subbed. 🇨🇦

I’ve not tried many dehydrated meals to be honest but I like the Steak Detective meals which weigh more but are tasty as anything! Always amazing that people will have an open fore in a place like that, so inappropriate and selfish. Good to see you did get some hot food as it did look real cold but £6.50 for that - wow! One thing I do not have to worry about anymore is combing my hair lol and I agree with you the hard and frost over the wet and mud any day of the week. What a lovely golden sunrise and good to see you rocking up and rambling on such a sunny, albeit cold day, cheers Alan

A fire there could definitely bring unwanted visitors! Very creative with the tent pegs! Lumpy milk yikes. I’m thinking this is how they prepare food on the space station. Looks a bit chilly for me. 🥶 Top tip for a Trangia burner is to only put in as much fuel as you will need, and definitely don't fill it to the brim, as it will take forever to bloom. To the top of the main body is considered full. A few drops of fuel dripped on the top of the burner will help it bloom quicker in cold weather.
@ramblingracheltrailtales11 ай бұрын
Yes, that's a good point to note. I don't like packing it away with fuel still inside it. I did make multiple brews in this one too.

Brilliant and inspiring, it's always a bonus when there's a new upload from you :) My usual camping meals are something along the lines of a tin of hot chicken curry from Aldi, with some boiled rice and a garlic naan or their sausages and beans, which are great value and very tasty with a buttered roll or two. Sometimes I just take ramen noodles and boil them in tomato juice and add some pepperami or sausage and cheese, much cheaper than those dehydrated meals and worth the extra bit of weight in my opinion. Great tent peg idea and I suppose long ones could be adjusted for simmering.
@ramblingracheltrailtales11 ай бұрын
Yeah, I need to find cheaper food options. Noodles is a good idea. I have to admit, sometimes I am just a bit lazy. 🥴

@@ramblingracheltrailtales I think it was English Woodsman who compared the weight of camping meals to tinned food and the difference was very minimal, the packaging and water needed to rehydrate a dry meal makes them about the same weight as a tin of curry etc, but for 8 times the price.

Hi Rachel, Oops boo-boo, glad you admitted it and better still found a way around it with tent pegs. Hi Graham, it’s a cracking spot. I didn’t want to say precisely where it was, let’s keep it nice 😊 A spreadsheet is a good idea. I don’t have a standard set gear list, I swap my stuff around from camp to camp, which is when I forget something! 🫢

I wouldn’t use any cooking system in a closed tent, too risky. Fumes and risk of fire. This was in a well ventilated area not inside the body of the tent but vestibular using a wind shield. Also, read the instructions ☺️

Great video, really enjoyed your relaxed presentation. The Chilterns looks nice. Never camped there but might be worth a visit. Couple of tips, add a little cold water to your coffee and milk powder, it stops the milk curdling when you add boiling water. Also treat yourself to the Trangia Stormproof Cookset. I've had various models of them since 1972 and the work brilliantly in any conditions, no need for a wind shield and speeds up boiling times. Happy camping. 👍👍
