I had a raccoon who had a badly deformed right foot, I fed her cat food and fresh water every night outside my screened porch, when she had her babies she brought them for me to see, what a very special moment, I let her be free to the wild but with my care .

I was swimming when a wild dolphin approached me yesterday on my birthday. It played for a while, I was a bit apprehensive about her getting so close as she is a powerful animal. I splashed the water with the palm of my hand and she copied me with her tail. After a few minutes she disappeared down to the bottom of the ocean floor (about 50 feet) only to reappear with some seaweed for us to play with, she tossed it to me, wanting me to return it to her. We played this game for a while and then I start to do turning motions in the water, she copied me again. She swam away several times and kept retuning to play. It was the most wonderful birthday present ever! ❤

I had the intense joy of fostering 2 baby squirrels after their mother died. They were just 3 weeks old . Just starting to nibble solid food. I had to get special permission from the provincial L&F under the stern promise i would release them once they were old enough to survive on their own. When they were about 3 month's old, i contacted L&F again to let them know i was looking to set them free. They suggested a childrens playground at a lake nearby. Lots of pine trees for nesting and food and lots of chances for the mooching from kids lol. I took them , in their pen, sat at a picnic table and opened the door. Eventually, they came out and sat on my shoulders. We attracted quite a crowd! So i spent the time talking to kids and parents about the good and bad parts of fostering wildlife while Chip and Dale looked around. When they were ready, they jumped down and ran off into the trees. I like to think they lived their lives fat and happy with the other playground squirrels. 😊

There are NO bad parts to fostering any wild animal. They are ALL good reasons to help wildlife. I do, and wouldn't have it any other way. I ENJOY ALL animals. Kindness is everything, and means everything to animals. 😻😻
@WaiferThyme4 күн бұрын
@annanardo2358 I agree about it being a wonderful, life changing experience. I felt the same way again when I helped rescue an injured grey goose after a storm. When I mentioned talking about the bad parts, I was speaking to the challenges of researching proper diet. Maintaining a balance between hands on care and enough distance so they don't lose their critical wild instincts. (The temptation to pet them, cuddle them or turn them into a pet is strong but that's ultimately a cruelty unless they are unable to survive on their own in the wild) . Working with your Federal or Provincial gov'ts for permissions and advice. And finally, the bittersweet moment you set them free.

On a violent night when there was a blizzard outside and the freezing wind was howling a strange thing happened to me. This weather was highly unusual as I was living in London at the time and we didn't get that sort of weather normally. I had two cats at the time who had very intelligently decided to stay in the warmth with me. At some stage while I was watching tv I became aware of a cat meowing, immediately thinking it was one of my cats. I looked around me and realized my cats were both in. So who was meowing outside? I opened my balcony door to find a huge ginger tom out there. For a moment I wondered what to do but decided to let him in seeing the weather was so bad outside. He came in and my cats warily stared at him but didn't move off their seats. I had a better view of him now he was in the light. I could see that although my cats were large by normal standards, the ginger tom seemed twice as big. I put a small bowl of food in front of him but he wasn't interested in it. After some twenty mins or so he wanted to leave so I let him out. He just wanted a place to warm up. I never saw that cat again. I was in awe of that cat and felt privileged he came to my house to warm up.

True AI generated BS, it annoys the 'shite' out of me. Especially as I have five cats, all of them rescued from the wild, lost abandoned kittens. Well, truth be told, four rescued and one (the latest) just burst in with the rest of them one day, sniffed around a bit and then decided he was staying? I'm very fond of him even though he peed on my bed, twice. Wee shites that they are.......oh and every 4 or 5 days now, there is a dead rat or mouse on the back porch, I no longer tread barefoot in the house (ever stepped on the corpse of some kind of half eaten vermin, not a good time?). It reminds me of when I was up at 4am to be at a job many miles away (previous I would have traveled the day before but my parents were getting older, I mean, don't be on your own older) and just as I was getting ready to leave, Mollie the cat (wee shite that she is) comes steaming in by me and drops a rat on the hearthrug, only the rat is not dead? She plonks it down, turns around to see what I might have for her and the rat 'legs-it' under the table, so I'm going ape-shit at 4'45 am chasing a rat and the cat just sit's back watching in high amusement? I got lucky in that there wasn't a door open to the rest of the house but of course the rat, instead of running out the back door, lodged under the fridge-freezer, so I had to pull that out and clatter it out of the house, whereupon my Dad makes an appearance wondering what all the noise is about? So, tight-lipped, I said I was getting rid of a rat, he just said' In my day we would just shoot them without all the fuss'? That was my start to a 19 hour day., feicin cats. But wait, you will never believe what happened when I came home (ala AI)! 'eff all except the cats obviously knew the van and were waiting to be fed, as usual. The end. Pricks.

It's favorite place to sleep was in the sleeve of my coat while I was wearing it. We found out it was a he, and named him Rocky. We did release him when he was about 6 months old. But he stayed close to the house and visited us often. I never knew they could be so affectionate and playful. Never bite us ever! Also had a large opossum that use to knock on the front door for food. Another story.

I would have done the same as he,she and her cubs would have NOT survived in that snow storm. The right thing to do was to OPEN THAT DOOR, FEED HER, and let her warm her cold cold body near the fire. And a BIG WELCOME to her 3 babies !!!! I would surely have kept the mother and cubs as pets !!! Many people have wild animals as pets. Nothing wrong w/ that, cause living in the wild is too rough and dangerous. I would SPOIL THEM ROTTEN AS WELL.!! YEAH, I DO LOVE CATS !!! I'm jealous of this guy, watching this made me happy though, to see his kindness towards the cats hardships. AND YES U WOULD HAVE DONE THE SAME. even though they can survive in spring summer and fall, I would herd them BACK into the house over winter. Winter SUCKS, it's the biggest inconvenience to man and animals alike. They would live like KINGS in MY house. Be KIND to animals, it costs you nothing, but the animals give back in a BIG way. That cabin must have stunk something fierce, with momma cat never going outside to pee or poop. Our dogs have a room in our house they can be in, but they always have a dog door they can use to the fenced back yard. When one had puppies, she house-trained them all by herself.

there is a book by a guy who kept wild animals on his farm. Mainly geese who were part of his family but also he had some wild boars who were a tame as puppies.

Regardless of how it came about, a 4 or 5 inch tail with a black and white tip is a surefire way to know that you have spotted a bobcat in Land Between the Lakes.Sep 13, 2023

I nursed a dove with a broken wing back to health. I saved her from a house cat. She stayed a week until she was able to fly.

Lovely. I hope this is true.

It is charming, but it probably isn't true. The last thing a wild animal would do is try to enter a human home. The second last thing they would probably do is sit down by a fire. Their instinct is to flee from fire. Thirdly, animals that live in cold areas do not give birth in the middle of winter, a time when offspring probably wouldn't survive. They give birth in spring. Finally, on the off chance that this story is true, the photos are not. That is true of nearly all Internet "stories". In this case, the cat shown is not a bobcat. Bobcats have very short tails (the meaning of "bob"). There's also a picture of the small mountain cabin, but later of a large white house. Whoever posts these stories just pulls a bunch of random shots, whether they are consistent with the story, or with each other, or not.

These cats look like the same ones in many of their other videos where they were also called bobcats. I haven’t been able to identify the species so I think they’re some kind of hybrid.

@@davidgardner863 I've seen that now too, just on one other video that I looked at on this site, that the cats look the same. It's true that they look like some kind of bobcat hybrid, but they probably aren't. Years ago I volunteered on 2 Earthwatch projects. Earthwatch is an organization that you can PAY to volunteer on research projects in the US and around the world, like you would pay for a tour, but you actually have to WORK on an Earthwatch project. Your payment is considered a charitable contribution by the IRS, so is a writeoff. Anyway, one of the projects I joined was in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area across the bay from San Francisco, on a study of the predator species bobcats and foxes. The head researcher told us volunteers that bobcats in the park were known to mate with feral domestic cats, but it was not known whether there were any offspring. I've read elsewhere that it's very unlikely. The species are too distantly related. So who knows what those cats are in the video. PS - just for the record, the other Earthwatch project I joined was in the Panamanian forest studying birds, and I actually got audited by the IRS for it - and got off Scot free by providing documentation from Earthwatch on their tax status. :-)

While out walking one evening, I came across an opossum with a huge tick on its' face. I told it to stay there while I went to get things to help. Amazingly when I got back about 10 minutes later, he was still there. He let me tie a small noose around his mouth then hold him to remove the tick. I removed the noose, he looked at me then then turned and walked away. I firmly believe that he knew I would help him.

The only thing better than being present at the birth of kittens is being invited by momma kitty to participate.

It was a rare frigid night in Houston, and while I sat in the living room, I heard a faint meowing from my front porch. I opened the door to find a gray cat looking up at me. He seemed to be saying: "Help!" It was bitterly cold - a record frigid night in Houston. The cat was shivering. I didn't hesitate. I found a cardboard box and some old towels. My porch was partially enclosed and made of brick, so I put the box down facing one of the walls, away from the wind, then put the towels inside and he climbed right in. I opened a can of tuna and a bowl of warm water, placed them in the box, and he stayed there until the weather became warmer. My neighbor, Melissa, and I adopted him, and I named him The Kid. He'd come by most nights and sleep on the porch, and we enjoyed his company. Unfortunately, he developed feline tuberculosis, and we had to put him to sleep. I cried bitterly when he was gone. Such a good little guy. And he treated me with love for what I think was saving his life that terrible frigid night.
