Man you've tought me alot and I've harvested nice bucks using your techniques and I know that's your point, however I wish u actually would harvest more deer. You have a really good Trac record for having harvesTED super nice deer..Don't get me wrong Dan I am a big supporter of your channel and I appreciate all the knowledge tought. I'd just love to see you harvest more deer using your techniques and then talk about what you did to harvest that deer. Not talk loudly in the stand about how or what you'll do to harvest a deer and then barley ever harvest!

Only bad thing is you have to deal with all the shed hunters. Was going to go out the other day in one of the few spots still open around here and that particular woods was full of meandering human and dog tracks. It was not a total loss, the woods there was full of rabbit tracks so found a new spot to go rabbit hunting in February.

New sub here. Thanks for the time and energy you spent, just to share some knowledge. I grew up in an area close to mountains. So I started hunting those mountain goats at young age. We had to walk about 6-8 hours to get to the hunting ground. It was harsh and tire-full journey, especially if we had to go for couple days hunt that required staying in caves or under big rocks at night with the snow on the ground and a bitter night cold. Long story short, every time I was up there, I was telling myself “ this is the last time coming here”. But then after a week or so , I was itching to go back and do the same all over again. That taught me to be so patient and independent. Now days I’m hunting whitetail deers with my buddies, they all see me as a reliable, dependable guy sitting at the top list of my group. Hunting is an addiction in a good way. And I will do it as long as my legs support me to walk in the bushes . 🥂

I love to watch Deer "Hunting" video. So many other video's are shooting videos. Thanks Dan. I am an South Western Ontario bow hunter that has to start hunting public land. The area I have found is much like the area in this video.. So thick that the rabbits won't go there ,lol.. The area is new for me this year and it is Dec 3. Last muzzle ends this week end. Your Videos are helping me to get set up. Changing from fixed stand to saddle hunting. Thanks again for your insight...

Man, love your videos. You ain't a lollipop you go hard and inspire me.. I am blessed with a piece that butts up against state land. Not a typical PA area, got some good deer. Would love to see how you approach this place.. the good deer bed on a Rock wall and always see me coming. Did you ever say who won the jacket?
@Amiyelvovna3 жыл бұрын
Nice job demonstrating how a hunter uses experience to approach a hunt, an area, the next foot placement, tree selection etc. It’s all this deliberation and details that make the difference. The patience and focus it takes when it comes to being quiet, especially during stand set up while finagling clangy. metal objects with cold fingers. Thus the beloved grind and exhaustion. Just got back from 3 days in north Alabama hills hunting public tva land. Camped in the cold on an island and canoed into areas to hunt. Was glad to be home but after one day I’m missing the woods.

Ontario’s season goes until the 31st of December and granted, once the door closes on the rut, pursuits become much more difficult. However what that time of year does have to offer is the ability to backtrack a buck shot (if you should be so lucky) or one seen cruising by within eyesight but out of range to understand how he chose to navigate that part of the woods as well as your ability to see exactly what those woods look like during next years season (with snow and no foliage). Our post peak rut usually arrives when the snow does. I’d forfeit all other rut phases for this window. No better time to shoot someone else’s “target buck” as his range broadens looking for the last hot does. Btw, the recurve is an ultra classy addition to the video!

What would you recommend if someone wanted to hunt that scenario from the ground?
@thehuntingbeast Жыл бұрын
The 1st thing I would recommend is reconsidering getting in a tree... Then if you have to stay on the ground stay to the downwind side of the trail and find the best cover you can to conceal you and dont change the natural landscape. They will notice.

Great info I do 75 % scouting and 25% hunting I hunt public land I’ve harvested about 90% of my deer on public land because I scout most of my buddies never scout they go the same place all the time and sometimes they get lucky most times they don’t I rarely hunt the same spot twice especially on public land the deer move with the pressure when pressure starts the deer hunt you I never hunt over bait I find bedding and I hunt travel corridors as close to the bedding as I can get as long as the wind is right I do pretty well every year so I think I’m on to something Good luck out there late season I also love shooting my recurve a real challenge

You'd better N0T have any Dooe pee on you when you film from your spot , that Buck will nail you. I have a friend that was putting out cracked corn in his yard to see turkeys. Just like you he found deer were eating it. Eventually he backed off on the frequency and the deer still came around every evening. Eventually he stopped because it got too expensive to feed the deer. He found out as you did that years later they still come around every night.
@mdcoyne3 жыл бұрын
Awesome video. Snow definitely allows you to more easily find big buck tracks. But it also helps other hunters find your secret spots. Have to make sure to double back to throw em off your scent

Hey Dan, I've had a lot of luck tracking deer in the snow. The best way to do it is just walk to where you know that there are deer and follow the freshest set of tracks you can find. There are some areas that don't hold many deer at this time so you won't see many tracks. Even if it is doe tracks, you will eventually find bucks if you follow them. The one's I found tended to lead me to big herds that held a decent buck or two. In my experience, the deer aren't bothered by the crunch of snow when you are walking. Just be sure you are hidden when you get to bedding areas. I almost always spooked a deer or two when I approached a thick area that the trails led me two. I've only had the opportunity to track deer in the snow twice (and only for a few hours in both occasions) and I've always seen a few groups of at least 8 deer. I'm still very inexperienced but tracking deer in the snow almost seems like using a cheat code. You find exactly where all the funnels are and the best bedding areas. You will find shit that's still warm and urine thats still evaporating. Unfortunately, we don't get a lot of snow here during the season lol.

Newer hunter here in SE WI. I’m watching as much of your stuff as possible. Dad wasn’t a hunter so you are my virtual mentor. Thanks for always keeping it real and not adding fluff. Side note: After all that creeping you aren’t afraid snapping those limbs off the tree isn’t going to spook the deer hopefully bedding nearby?
