Freiburg has also another big park that isn't in the city center called Seepark. It's a nice park around a lake offering recreational activities for all ages, with its swimming lake, restaurants, playgrounds and miniature golf.
@patricianilsen40212 жыл бұрын
Thank you for mentioning Seepark and the swimming. My family is from Sulzburg, and my uncle and tante settled here in Freiburg. The beer garden had a delicious onion pizza, and the market around the cathedral has the best wurst vendors….there is great music, the shops are lovely too. The cathedral clock fascinated me as a child. My tante has long passed, but when we last visited and then traveled to other family in Switzerland, the train to Frankfurt airport made a stop here, and there was my aunt, with a Freiburg tote full of chocolates and fruit for our journey. I’m so glad to see this city get the attention it deserves.
@KurthTobias2 жыл бұрын
@@patricianilsen4021 @Patricia Nilsen Yeah the wurst vendors are great. The onions you can get to your wurst is something I miss then I'm not in the area. I visited again for a few days in 2003 (?) and was delighted to see the sheepherder was still there with his dog and sheep on the hillside into the Kappel valley. I was hoping to have liver & onions with spaetzle at Kappler Kreuz, but they were closed that day. The Schwarzwald above Kappel was very beautiful, with lots of quaint wooden signs telling which way at path junctions. Magical. Sundays early in the day many Freiburg folks would come in family units and lederhosen to hike. Do the bells in the Muenster tower still ring?

7:34 You mixed in a photo of Graz, Austria there! Thanks for writing about Freiburg. I grew up there, I like it. I always forget my hiking boots and it's wonderful to hike barefoot and cool one's toes in the little stream of water. Well actually wear whatever shoes you like, just no high heels, those are impractical on the old pavement. Just don't get run over by a tram or bike. For Schauinslandbahn you don't need a taxi, you can easily go there by tram and bus. Also there are good tickets on the RVF. What you didn't mention: It's a bicycle friendly city. When I'm there I do most of my trips by bike, it's by far the most healthy, practical and convenient way to explore the place, you can stop anywhere, you experience more along the way than in other modes of transport and they have nice bicycle routes. I'm sure there's a way for tourists to rent a bike as well.

It turns out the trams are on strike. Ok let’s take a cab. Can’t buy a cab. I think they may have been on strike too. We take a relatively quick walk into town in the rain. Not a horrible walk. Lots of interesting shops, beautiful churches, nice lunch and another wet walk back to the train. Lesson learned, always bring a rain coat and confirm the trams aren’t on strike.
