Freightliner Cascadia 5.0 (2021) Automated Driving Features - DEMONSTRATION

The 2019-2021 Freightliner Cascadia offers partially automated driving features (level 2), making it the first-ever partially automated series production truck on North American roads. It also made its world premiere during today’s presentation of Daimler Trucks at CES 2019.
With Active Drive Assist (Mercedes-Benz Actros, FUSO Super Great) and Detroit Assurance 5.0 with Active Lane Assist (Freightliner new Cascadia), Daimler Trucks is already bringing partially automated driving features into series production. The new system can independently brake, accelerate and steer. Unlike systems that only work above a certain speed, Active Drive Assist / Detroit Assurance 5.0 make partially automated driving possible in all speed ranges for the driver for the first time in a series production truck. Active lateral control and the connection of longitudinal or lateral control in all speed ranges are new thanks to the fusion of radar and camera information.

As a trucker who drives a 2022 cascadia with lane keep assist and lane departure warning. Very dangerous. I have had it fuck me up more than help me. Jerks the wheel too much. The emergency braking also has too many case alarms. If you don’t catch it soon enough it’ll bring you to a dead stop in the middle of the highway for nothing.

Lane departure warning is good enough, the assist could be unsafe especially if you’re trying to avoid an object in the road. The adaptive cruise control is better on the Freightliner vs Kenworth IMO.

This sounds scary seeing every other “safety” device on the truck seems to malfunction. Like automatically hitting the brakes when there is nobody else around. Maybe they should work on their suspension first.

Just like my Honda Civic with the Sensing System. Adaptive cruise is really nice. So is the lane assist. I can take both hands off the wheel to text. Car practically drives itself.

now make it hybrid. Or fuel cell? Electric takes way too long to charger nor have a range of gas so not ready for semi. Hybrid would be perfect fit for acceleration from 0-30 using electric motor

its because up untill like 5 years ago commercial trucks were never emissions regulated and the companies didnt give a shit. what about your 10 hr off duty? thats enough of time to charge. the weight of the motor,gas,trans is more then adequate to equal out the weight of the batteries and your right why dont trucks have hybrids motors with regen. all that kinetic energy being wasted. breaking and going down hill

@@Randy-rs1cg yeah but you won't get the range to do 10 hr charge. Batteries are way too expensive now and I can't imagine how much it would cost to have about 700mi pack for Semi.. I'm 700mi because I drive chevy Bolt and I'm only getting about 160mi during winter time. My bolt is rated at 240mi but that only in summer days with low speed.

I drive one of these for my company. The jake kicked on automatically downhill in the rain and snow in bad road conditions. It kicked on without cruise control being on, without service brake being pushed, and without the jake manually being applied on a 6% downgrade. If you can't fix this from happening in weather where you are not supposed to use your jake the manufacturer is going to have a huge lawsuit on it's hands if a driver is killed. How tf the radar can detect ice etc but still apply Jake's automatically on a downgrade was incredibly stupid
