Cylinder liner is shaft where the piston head travels during combustion. Normal shop would take 10 days, Engine shop if everything ready 4 days. (I have a similar problem)

Many years ago I had the same problem on a Caterpillar 3406 E with water in oil and it was the head gasket. How are you so sure that it is a cylinder liner and not a head gasket?

I know from my experience working with the DD engines they have more issues with cracks or cavitation in the liners more often than a head gasket failure Detroit did a really good job to prevent that due to so many issues with head failures with the MBE engines.

I had a coolant line replaced with a upgraded line from freightliner by passing the block because they say you dont need it they sell u the cap, the very next day my truck liner leaking causing me needing a inframe, coincidence or did plugging the line from the block cause it?

Groza Ion yeap. Had to do an inframe. Piston rings were bad. Cost me about 13k.

Hey all I have the same problem in my 2013 cascadia dd15 engine I have all these symptoms and using a lot of coolant a gallon for 1000 miles first Francisco are you gana show us how to fix it like always or depends on truck owner I guess 2nd if I keep running on the engine like this how much can I run and what's the consequences regards God bless you and your family

The repair could become more costly if you continue to drive. If your problem really is a cracked liner, you could stop now and get an in-frame rebuild done. If you keep driving to the point that your engine oil fully breaks down and can no longer properly lubricate, you could cause damage to your crankshaft and the engine will have to be remove to be repaired, or replaced.

Change the oil every 12k ( semi sinthetic oil )miles and you wont have issues and injectors with harmess between 600k-700k miles.This engine deffinetly hasnt been well maintained .Replace crank filter, and do an update on the fuel housing filters and the egr valve. Replace Fuel pump at 800k and doser . Replace the 7th injector every 200k miles .Do a valve adjustment every 200k miles and new coolant every 3 years. Check with dealer for new updates and replace the old parts with updated ones...and thats about it. Oh, and do preventive maintanance on the truck ...if it old replace it IT WILL GO BAD!!!!! better on your time and money than beeing towed to a dealer....Hoses, harness, sensors.....they will go bad just a matter of time..so keep a schedule time sheet how old is the part and replace it!!

Hack Daddy - Official - Neither, it’s the cylinder liner. I had this exact thing happen to me truck going in and out of shops because the condition was intermittent shops couldn’t diagnose the fault. Eventually the liner failed completely and hydro locked my engine on fwy. Only 600,000 miles. Drove it like a baby. Yet still failed. Ugly times.

My mechanic tells me he’ll charge me around $12k if I don’t need a new head. The damn overhaul kit itself cost around $8k.

Overspraying injector makes more heat inside of cylinder and that kills the liner....

I have a 2015 Cascadia dd13 it’s loosing half a gallon every 500 miles i did coolant pressure tested no leaks external no water in oil I also removed egr cooler to turbo elbow pipe my self. egr cooler looks dry any ideas were it can be I would appreciate any help thank you

carlos Macias My 2013 Cascadia was doing the same thing & it turned out to be bad radiator. I had new radiator put in at Freightliner in Dallas $3000 all in. Good luck
