I’ve had mine a full year now. What a crazy system as it will start and stop the engine 5-10 times during a 10 hour break in the summer. You can literally get cooler air with a fan in the passenger side window if you have one in the bunk. If its 90 at sundown you might as well push the yellow air break in and idle all night if you have good trailer breaks. Good luck your gonna need it.

So does the optimized idle need to be on when using the espar and inverter?
@Ilooknothinglikemyfather Жыл бұрын
I appreciate your input! I got to say - what a confusing system. It would be so much easier if Freightliner had a Auto Climate control setting all together like most modern cars. Set the temperature in the cab to 68 degrees and continue to maintain temperature (heat or A/C) until the ignition is turned to the Off position. I read the “Interior Comfort” setting as a setting I want while I’m not driving down the road, but it’s not so simple. Weird design.

@johnbarker50097 ай бұрын
Is there a way to control whether or not the blower runs when the engine is shut off? If Optimized Idle is in heat mode, you might not want to have the blower running when the engine is shut off, because you're creating a cool draft. If Optimized Idle is in A/C mode, you might want the fan to keep running even when the tractor isn't running, because circulating that air will keep you from getting too hot in the sleeper.

On the ac snowflake button it has the color green then when pressed again blue. Do you know the difference between the two colors?
@DDTruckDriver3 жыл бұрын
So it is a weird thing. No light - AC off Green light - eco AC Blue light - full AC. It is a weird feature. So when you turn on the AC you should be able to turn it to blue but after 45 minutes it will go green and the AC compressor won't run constantly, but will turn on and off so it doesn't run all the time. It was Freightliner's attempt to "save fuel." In moderate conditions it is fine. But in hot conditions you might feel like all the sudden your AC is doing a poor job and it is because it has gone into eco mode. You can click the button to turn it back to blue and then your compressor will run full time again. But unfortunately it will do this every 45 minutes and you have to switch it back each time.
@rockusa64423 жыл бұрын

@DDTruckDriver2 жыл бұрын
Well...yes it should. Of course there can be sensors that go bad or other problems that can cause it to not work properly. However, when we have run into this where it runs in battery mode for a long time it usually means there is a bad battery(s) and last month a truck with a bad alternator was also doing that. But my suggestion would be to: 1. Look at your battery voltage on the dash both when it is running and when it is off. If when running it should be above 14, if not we have a battery or alternator issue. When it is off if it drops down below 12.3 then it will have to start back up and stay running because the voltage is too low which would mean bad batteries.

@DDTruckDriver3 жыл бұрын
Glad it helped! As for the reason on your other issue, it is hard to say without more information. But make sure you aren't cranking the AC all the way on full blast, that can freeze things up as well it can make the truck think there is something wrong if it feels like it isn't reaching the temperature you are asking for. If you are fully cranked on AC try backing it off a bit.
@11One0One113 жыл бұрын
@@DDTruckDriver hey I found out a solution for my a/c only working in the sleeper! So I found out there is a valve that basically splits the system in 2 between the main cabin and sleeper. The valve is located above the fuel tank on driver side where the a/c hoses enter the sleeper. It gets stuck or malfunctions and all you need to do is tap it with a wrench or light hammer to open it up. Might need replacing but this has worked so far.

@DDTruckDriver3 жыл бұрын
So your truck does have to be spec'd with optimized idle from the factory. It is not a standard automatic option. So if it doesn't show up then it is not spec'd for it. As far as I know if this is the case then you can't add it after however I cannot say that is for sure the case. After all, all it needs is a hood sensor and a software change and then it can do it. So you might ask freightliner if you can add it after the fact.

WHY DOES IT TAKE 1 HR TO 2 HR FOR IT TO START UP AGAIN
@DDTruckDriver3 жыл бұрын
Depends on how you are running it. The truck will not maintain it exactly at your set temperature, it will do something like + or - 3 to 5 degrees. Meaning if you have your temp dial set right in the middle that is basically setting your temperature at 72 degrees. So the truck will try to maintain that, but once it shuts off it will let the temperature go to 69 or 76 degrees before it fires back up. This way your truck isn't working its guts out all the time to try and be perfect with temperature. The other scenario, let's say you have your temp dial turned way down in the blue so it is trying to maintain 60 degrees. If it is warm outside that is very hard for the truck to do and if it is trying and trying to cool down the truck but cannot do it, then after about 1 hour it gives up and it shuts down and doesn't start back up for a while or sometimes it won't start back up at all in case something is wrong and you have to start everything over again.

Thanks, you rotten bastards. A curse upon your line! Except the distant parts I may be related to. Those can remain uncursed.

Plugin as many devices as you can, sleep with your parking lights on. Drain your battery as fast as possible. Your truck will have to turn back on to charge the battery. I used to plug in my crockpot and pour a bottle of water in it to keep it from overheating. Keep a clear escape path and fire extinguisher near by just incase. Make sure crock pot is on level steady surface where you wont kick it or knock it over. If you have a tv, leave it on and drape a towel over it. Run a fan all night. Drain those batteries.

Only a good deal if you truck has that option

So true, and what is worse is when you find out how much it is to add it at the factory...it is ridiculous that anyone skips this option.

Have I ever used it down in Laredo, Phoenix, Nogales ??? Nope I just am telling how it works in theory. No sweat or lost sleep on my end.

Are you saying it wouldn't work in laredo? I've used it to sleep comfortably in the middle of the summer in south texas.

well is the option there? It is possible your truck was built without it

Ok , got that part to at least work , Now , how do you just get this bucket of cusswords to just stay running ? 10 gal. of fuel is still cheaper than a motel ,
@DDTruckDriver3 жыл бұрын
So you can adjust all the settings to allow it to run. However you have to have the program to plug in to the truck to adjust those parameters. And that program costs a few hundred dollars and it is not easy to use. The nice thing is it is very customizable though so you can really make it work however you would like it to

Piece of junk, mine cuts off states hood open, damn thing don't realize that I'm parked on a fucking hill . Seems like some engineer smart would have thought about that . Just shows how smart are smart people really are 😢

I’m sorry but optimized idle is junk. I had a truck like this for two weeks and the heat and air stopped working. Separate issue. I couldn’t idle the truck so absolutely no heat and no air. I will not drive a truck that I cannot idle.
@skylerdroubay82093 жыл бұрын
Sounds like your real problem was parameter settings being incorrect. Optimized idle isn't a free pass to idle the truck how you want, it still has parameters and you can set those however you would like so you can idle 100% of the time or just with certain temperatures. I love opt idle in my truck. It manages the temperature for me so I don't have to wake up and make adjustments in the night. Plus it reduces my idle time by about 20% saving a lot of fuel.

@@skylerdroubay8209 optimized idle is fine if I can idle when I need too. My last truck was programmed to shut down after three min. No good. If I need to idle I do not want the truck to shut down. When I’m hooking up to a trailer and charge the air and get out to inspect everything I don’t want the truck to shut down. When I’m sitting in traffic or at a long stop light. I don’t want the truck to shut down or try to shut down. If the epu/apu goes out and I can’t get it repaired for several days I want to stay warm or cool. So optimized idle is junk. It’s that simple. When it’s 25 degrees out i want to start the truck and let it run for a while. Can’t do that unless you’re feathering the accelerator or brake pedal. Again no good. To each their own bro.

@@a-a-ron4679 Sure and we each have our own opinion. But what I am pointing out is you are talking about parameters, not idle or optimized idle. The truck can and will run whenever you need it to, but if your parameters don't allow it you need to adjust them. So my point in mentioning this is to point out that it isn't the idle system that is the problem, it is the parameters that are giving you problems. Hopefully that helps
@a-a-ron46793 жыл бұрын
@@skylerdroubay8209 it helps. Thanks. My point is. I want to be able to idle when I see fit. Not when the carrier or manufacture sees fit. Have a good one and stay safe out there.
