It's not a question of holding the breath at the end of the word. It's because the tonic accent in French goes down at the end of a sentence instead of up as it does in English which gives this impression of longer words in French.
@TheTheolm10 жыл бұрын

The bit of air at the end of "salut", though, is a bit much. As a general rule, add the little burst of air to words that end in "e" and for the rest just end it as is.
@UnfamiliarPlace7 жыл бұрын
It is a different thing from that final e muet -- though not sure if it's something all French speakers do. I've known a couple of native speakers who did have very pronounced "exit breaths", as she calls them, particularly on 'u' sounds.

I'm french ! And you know what Amy? French people often don't make any effort to speak English/American with the right accent !!! I love American accent and I understand it better than the English one, though I studied English during 7 years. Then I improve myself by training courses with a real American teacher during 2 years! I used to speak it fluently and I traveled to Canada .... But then my life became a mess ... And I have forgotten so many words/sentences .... ! But now that I follow you, I'm gonna check my level! Last week I spoke with an American FB friend during the whole night for me (about 6 hours). I was so happy (and tired too lol). I wish I could meet you to talk with you. Thanks for your videos, and smiles, you're so sweet and nice 😊

Damn I'm french and had never noticed about that breath trick.. We do make the end of the words slip, but it's defently not the what we especialy do to "les liaisons" which is what makes french fluid (for those who don't know what it is, it's the principal making the sound letter that is supposed to be mute) for exemple "Un autre" is said "Un nautre" so there's not break in the sentence (doesn't work if the first letter of the next word is an "h" as "haricots" for instance as the "h" in french is ALWAYS mute). Just noticed my comment is turning into a french lesson haha

Pas de tout? You mean Pas du tout
@MegaCodgod998 жыл бұрын
Is she actually French? And is it true that you blow out a bit after each word? I've been learning French and I've never heard of this. It kinda confuses me
@LV1111-s8j8 жыл бұрын
I don't think she is french, for the little breathing sound, it depends of the region and guys usually don't do it. I think it depends on the situation, I tend to accentuate it if I'm trying to sound good or to sound more cute/sensual but I dont' really realize it in the moment ahah
@heqorzo10 жыл бұрын
Your almost right Amy. In fact in french you must never make any separation between two words in the same proposition. For this we have some lettres muettes and we make elysions (i don't know how to translate it in english)
@dedoubecool10 жыл бұрын
That was somewhat very irritating... and also not true ! who blows at the end of each word ?
@CommeUnFrancais10 жыл бұрын
Okay but really though French people do that. They tend to exhale a little bit after their words at the ends of the sentences. You might not notice it because you're a natural French speaker, but you do it.
@GreenDan86810 жыл бұрын

Amy, thanks for the exit breath info - This is what we always have in English, as spoken in Ireland. We say "right" as if it was spelt "ryshuh"... sort of. Depends on the accent - be aware that we all change our accents just a little - adopting some local features, dropping others, just to be understood in America.It would be so cool to hear you copy Gerry Ryan's accent - Gerry Ryan - Ryan Confidential Tribute
