I really don't get how people keep breeding these dogs, knowing full well they keep having issues like this. And that the people who are buying these pets don't ever seem to be aware of these issues until their pet almost dies as result. It really upsets me, because there are so many other, equally cute dogs that don't have genetic issues, but because they're not 'pure blood', they get pushed aside.

A century or so ago they used to have a snout. Then someone said it was more aesthetically pleasing a flatter snout and now the poor dogs are paying for it. Same for pugs

Sadly, a huge part of dog breeds have issues because of humans. We’ve bred them to a point that’s absolutely unacceptable for them to have a good quality of life. It’s really really sad 😔

Misinformation seems to be a huge problem, humans just see a cute dog, get the dog without ever being informed about the horrible genetic issues and the breeders just get the money :[ I wish some day people will start caring more about the animals than the "breed standard"

I've had cats for over 50 years. Several of them reached ripe old ages and George is showing all the signs of being a very old cat. I am happy to see that he will spend his last bit of life with loving people. He may never put on weight, even if fed up and when they get very old, they stop grooming so their coats start looking ragged. They should also watch his claws as old cats do not regularly scratch and shed their claws but instead the claws can grow and curl up into their paw pads.

Gotta stop breeding for the super short snout. If breeders would start breeding for Longer snouts than the airway problem can be fixed. Hell most of the negative traits and issues can be fixed if we go back to the old standard. That’s not going to change unless the breed registry groups get on board. We see this a lot with certain stock horse breeds. Devastating genetic diseases which are now requiring genetic test before a foal can be registered. After all the last thing you want to do is spend thousands of dollars for your dream foal only to find out at 2-3 years old when you start the horse under saddle that it’s skin practically falls off. HERDA is no joke, it’s awful as any rub can cause serious skin damage.

R. McBride well they said he came from somewhere they couldn’t take care if him anymore probably an elderly person with how sweet that cat is. I’m guessing dementia or something it’s the reason my grandma’s cat came here because she’d sometimes put strawberry jam down for him to eat 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ he’s the sweetest thing ever though he loves cuddles and he’s a really polite boy as our other two boys steal food like crazy this guy actually asks nicely by putting his paw on your arm and tapping your arm gently. Then there is the youngest who just doesn’t care for any food that isn’t cat food 😂

At least they handed him in to the vet rather than just dumping him or euthanizing him. He went to a place where he can be saved. He could have been neglected by accident if you know what I mean, it wasn't a deliberate act but what led to the reason they admitted that couldn't care for him. Even though it's bad he was neglected, they admitted they were incapable of his care and left him where he could be safe

I very much hope that we see more concerted efforts to undo the harms of extreme brachycephalic breeds. Programs such as the one stated in the 1970s which has led to the Olde English Bulldogge, which aims to restore the breed to it's original, athletic form, and rectify the issues of compromised breathing. If anyone is considering an English Bulldog, I would ask to you to please, please consider the (now KC registered) Olde English Bulldogge instead.

She's only had a few problems in the 9 years I've had her. I know other's that have french bulldogs with many health problems. Over the years, I have come to the decision that I will never purchase another dog. As much as I love certain breeds, I just can't justify doing so when there are so many cuties waiting in the pounds or rescues that are just as deserving of love and a good home.

Honey and Honey's owner are so lucky. My dog died on April 21st 2020 because of heart cancer. The vets we took my dog too couldn't understand why he was coughing and throwing up. At the last day before my dog died he had a blue tongue and was foaming at the mouth. We look him to our nearest veterinary emergency place and they even did CPR on his because his heart stopped.. after my dog died at the hospital the vets we went to called back to us. They said it was heart cancer. They told us AFTER my dog died.. Im still frustrated and angry at the vets but im determined if I succeed on becoming a vet I can help other creatures who also has heart cancer like my dog did. And to actually tell the owners about it and what we can do to fix it. That's why I want to become a veterinarian. Im ready to go through whatever it takes to help animals.

Bulldogs are uniquely bred for their face shape, but this isn't ethical and they tend to have breathing difficulties and other issues (e.g. long tongues) which require painful surgery. These brachiocephalic (snub nosed) dogs (and cats) have so many problems related to their overbred pushed in snouts. Makes me angry that breeders ignore the health of the animals to breed them to conformities which cause so many health problems. That includes such issues of hip dysplasia and other issues as well.

People usually see a vet after they get an animal, not before, which makes sense but also doesn't give the vets the chance to warn in advance. The real problems are that laws allow such dogs to be bred and that people buy dogs without doing any kind of research on the breed. If it were up to me kids would learn a bit about dogs and cats at school instead of some of the many useless subjects they have now

Sadly, laws or not, people would still breed them. Look at pit bulls...home insurance and laws don’t protect them AND some counties ban them! Yet, people keep on breeding them, not caring if they get euthanized just for being a pit bull. Drugs are illegal in America, yet everywhere you look, a meth head is passed out in a parking lot or beating their head against the cement. Guns- illegal in many places, yet people have them. So, you just can not stop any one from doing things. Those are just examples, I am NOT being political or for/against any particular thing listed above.

Maybe if the breeders had to start footing the bill for the vet to fix the problem with the French bulldogs breathing, they would reconsider their breeding criteria. Why do they purposely breed for a facial structure that doesn't work? I worked with a woman who bred collies. She was so proud of producing collies with ugly looking long, skinny noses that caused breathing issues.

At age seven, the beagle should be easing her way toward retirement from agility competitions. The older she gets, the worse her knee problems are likely to get and the more prone to injury she'll be. I hope the owner was told off camera that it's time to start planning on slowing down her dog's lifestyle, before this one little problem becomes a chronic or more severe one. The dog's already proven she can hide injuries moderately well. Letting her continue working at the same pace at that age is asking for trouble.

I’ve honestly never seen any vet in America as loving toward their patients like Scott. 💕 poor, sweet Honey. My heart breaks for her. My apologies, but I think the beagle owner is very selfish. The pup doesn’t need to compete to have fun, and she will avoid injury again in the future.

Oh 😍 that shih thzu. 😢😢😢 My poor dog had the same but really aggressive. Splean and liver looked like a pile of grapes. I got to take her home and give her tons of love for 3 week before her 1 day just by look her in her eye knew this is it. Sorry but I must move on. So called and booked the time and she took her last breaths in my arms in the clinic. Still missing her like crazy 10 years later.

I'm wondering if George the cat has hyperthyroidism. It would explain the weight loss and poor coat condition. At least if he does, a vets office can give him excellent treatment

Why was it ok, in light of Honey’s heart problems, to anesthetize Honey for the specialist’s procedures when it was not permitted for the original needle biopsy? The specialist didn’t even mention the issue!

I think with the original biopsy it wasn’t worth the risk to put her out when local anesthesia would do it. But for the actual surgery the risk was necessary.

Honey is such a beautiful little dog. Her parents just adore her like all people should. They also take beautiful care of her. Cecil is a very good looking dog. Its sad that people breed these dogs for their looks despite the health issues it causes. George is such a great cat and all that purring. In 6 months he will be an entirely different cat. Elize is a very nice looking beagle.

Poor babies. Most of you are complaining about the smush-nose Frenchie & breeders. But it seems to me that the breeder of the precious Shihi Tzu bears some blame. Honey's problems were congenital. I feel for the little Beagle too. My Cocker & I were avid hikers & she had to have ACL surgery at age 10. The surgery was a great sucess and after healing she went on to hike 3 & a half more years until she had a lens come out of place in her eye. The vet opthalmologist did an experimental procedure & not only did not help her but actually caused her pain. (It was called couching. Never get that). That stopped us. Im glad the Beagle only needs rest.

I don't, know why people are saying she's exercising her beagle to hard. Any less and that'd be one FAT dog. Beagles are an active breed that enjoy agility and engaging in stuff like that.
