French Cleat Tool Storage - Flag Edition

French Cleats are great for tool storage, but I wanted to see if it was possible to make them look cool at the same time. So I based the next set of french cleats off the USA flag, and it turned out amazing. Come watch the process so you can have this in your garage too.

This is unreal! I was just having a sit down with my fiancé and telling her, “I’ve got an idea!.” Then of course her facial expression changed to her “oh great another project,” face! I did French cleats in my workshop, and i didn't have any wall board, just studs. However, i ended up using twice as much lumber doing it that way. In between every cleat board, i installed a 1 x 4 board, so when I hung something up, it had some sort of support behind the lower part of the piece. I tried to hang stuff on there without the extra 1 x4 and it didn't work out very well. But with the extra board between every cleat it was every bit as hood as having wallboard up.

I really liked what you did, the fact you went to a lot of work to make it right (those stars looked tedious to do) and you made it excellent. If you're going to do it, do it right. And you did! (As for my shop aesthetic, it's not my style for a tool wall... but I admire your awesome work) ... I'll bet the wife said Finally you got around to painting the other half of the garage... let me guess that spiraled into a lot of other projects because as anybody knows you don't "just paint one wall"

Cool idea. You lost me at the idea of cutting out 50 stars on the bandsaw. 🤣 but w/ a white pegboard, using the cricut stars as a mask before spray painting might be doable.

The French cleats are what brought me to this channel. I love getting inspiration for shop organization. Other flags do not work as well for this kind of project.
