A US17 dagger made from bayonets. These bayonets supplied with the US 17 rifle to France, which had become obsolete, were recycled into daggers. The first transformations would have taken place during the Indochina War. These daggers were also used on several OPEXes, notably in Lebanon and Zaire, by the parachute regiments. - Remington 1913 3 16 with Web fabrics - Remington 1913 2 16 -Remington 1913 12 16 - Remington 1917 and US grenade with 18 - R.I.A. 1918 US 331934 used in the legion until 1982 but these daggers were still used during ceremonies in 2010 alongside the glock dagger and the usm3 dagger

Very cool knife! I have been hoping to run across one for years. My brother tells me this knife was indeed carried by Foreign Legionnaires he encountered during the 1st Gulf War. I've always thought that we would simply consider them bastardized M1917 bayonets if not for their connection to the Foreign Legion.

Thanks for this interesting video. I have one of these, which I acquired in the 1990s, though I didn't know it's history. I am ex 15 (Scottish) Para.

Solid looking knife. By chance be keen to understand how they might cut them down without damaging the heat treatment

I bought one of those 35yrs ago, at a California gun show for $10. I’ve been trying to find info on it for years without success. What are they worth these days?

@patrickshannon4854 they don't sell to often so it's hard to say, I saw one sell at auction for about $150USD a while back but because there are few of them and limited interest it probably varies from sale to sale

@@pointynotsharpwell, it’s interesting & that’s enough. I’ve got to dig it out & check the blade markings. At the same time I’ll get out a Lithgow P1907 that I’ve been meaning to ask you about. Anyway, cheers, half the fun is in the hunt & subsequent research. You’ve solved one mystery for me.

@TheForkliftOfDoom nice man, I was C Coy and pioneers. I left in 2015. I don't want to reveal my identity here but I was the tall lanky dude with a moustache in pioneers 2013 and 14. That should narrow it down
