As an Italian born and raised in France, I can relate. In fact, I do not feel THAT Italian, and will always root for the BLUE white and red. @@jetaddicted I sympathize a lot with the way that you feel. I remember opening up about feeling more American that Mexican to some of my Mexican family and they became angry at me. They accused me of being ashamed of my heritage and wanting to be more "White", whatever that means. I am not ashamed of my heritage and I am actually very prideful of it, but whenever I go to Mexico, there is always that "disconnect". I try very hard to talk to my cousins and people of my age group but I simply missed out on the experience of actually growing up there which really does isolate you. With that being said, I have come to the realization that I actually do not have to pick a side. No one is pointing a gun to our heads forcing us to choose what nationality we feel most connected to. Us the children of immigrants, mixed marriages, and any other circumstance that has placed them in the middle of two worlds have a beautiful gift that majority of the world will never experience. Do not be sad because you are unsure of who you are, be glad that you are a child of the world!

As a French person, the funniest part of the video was trying to guess what the actual words Armand was teaching them were from the mangled versions Josh and Ollie were saying :) No one has said "sacrebleu" out loud since 1900 or thereabout, but actually, like many old curse words, "bleu" (meaning blue) was used to replace "Dieu" (God) as it was considered blasphemy to invoke the name of the Lord. So the original, sacrilegeous, version would be "sacré Dieu" (good God, more or less), which no one would say because for a long time France was a deeply catholic country, especially in rural areas, people would instead use "sacrebleu" instead. But no one living ever uses it, though I can't speak for ghosts or the occasional overdramatic ironic theater or history student. A similar case would be "morbleu", which used to be "mordieu", or "god's death". Thank you Armand for preventively telling people "à jolie vite" is not actual French, I'm sure you've spared lots of us heart attacks :) And yes, travelers to France should definitely branch out from Paris, there are so many amazing places to see. Brittany is beautiful, would love to see you guys visit!
@ShinGetsu857
@ShinGetsu857 Жыл бұрын
Blue was the colors of royalty, since they were supposed to be of divine descent as well. Thus, "sacré bleu" was supposed to be about royal blood in general. This is where "palsambleu" comes from as well. It means "Par le sang bleu" "By the blue blood" which would be noble blood.

For someone who wants to learn french just remember that 80% of the french that is spoken en France and Belgium is actually slang. So if you really want to learn the french that is spoken and the way it is spoken you absolutely have to live in the country. As, i think, most of the languages around the world btw.

Hey guys I totally use sacrebleu, morbleu and pardieu 😂 it's ancient French but it's funny. Don't be afraid of French people (I meant "Parisians"). We're nice, you just gotta say "bonjour excusez-moi" before asking us for something (hello, excuse me). It's basic manners in France. Even as a Parisian if I don't start the conversation like this, people in the street or stores won't want to help me 😉

French Canadian here! Sacré bleu (or sacrebleu; sacred god) is an old Quebec term, similar to 'good heavens!' -- many terms related to the church are common profanities in Quebec, and they're called the Sacres (to consecrate). The MOST common day-to-day terms used here (in my family, at least) are Câlice (the chalice), Criss (christ), Esti (the host), Tabarkak (the tabernacle), Ciboire (ciborium), and Sacrement (also sacrement lol). Using them in France is hilarious 'cause people just think you're a religious nut... 😅

I used to see sacré bleu in old french books I read. So, sacré bleu was used in the past but not anymore. Since it used to be used by the french, the English in the past must have heard it and kept it in the their beliefs of how french people spoke. That caricature of the frenchman must have persisted today. Like you said, Sacré bleu is sacred god. But bleu here is a replacement for the word dieu (god in french), since saying the word god in that way is considered a blasphemy for Christians. So dieu was replaced by bleu cause it rhymes. It's like saying gosh darn it instead of god damn it. I guess it's not used anymore by the french, cause the french aren't heavily as religious as before.
