This is how a company should be run! "any questions, just ring Marylynne, she's always happy to help" You're the world's most famous brand of pipe and I genuinely get the impression every problem you face is resolved by asking the nice lady in the back office to look into it when she gets a chance and I love that! Missouri meerschaum for president!

That isn't true, when a hole burned through the shank of my 30 days old pipe she replied this. ""It looks like the pipe may have gotten set down on something like a cigarette or other burning object. That’s really the only way to get a burn mark like that on the shank. Since the damage was not due to a defect in the pipe itself, I’m sorry but we won’t be able to replace it for you.""

Hello, I am a 25 yr old, newcomer to pipe smoking here. I have always had a tremendous appreciation for pipe smoking and it’s history, as well as the different tales that might come with it. I was so pleasantly surprised to find this company and their KZbin channel! Im sure I speak for a large volume of new, and long time, pipe smokers when I say this company and y’all’s story sure has captured me. I wish y’all the best and I look so forward to smoking a pipe in one of the next videos I watch.

Thank you for that explanation of the name. That has thrown me off as I have a collection of Meerschaum pipes from Eskeshir Turkey done by Master Carvers. I have been scratching my head for awhile now trying to figure out how you get Meerschaum from Missouri! Now it makes perfect sense.

I was a bit put off of getting a MM cob because I thought I’d either have to mud the bottom or deal with charring the shank but I got around that with using Denicool filter crystals or meerschaum granulate. Love my MM cob pipe and have a couple more coming in! ❤️
@tomwebster36364 жыл бұрын
This might help you? I do a honey break in on my cobs. I plug the stem with paper towel and fill the bowl with honey letting it sit overnight. Next wipe out most of the honey and pack with tobbaco and smoke that first bowl as hot as can be!! Hot as you can stand it! (Its like your tempering your cob??) Now after your 1st smoke the wood shank is burnt down perfectly and the bottom is perfectly mudded.

Was watching the video of your factory tour when I saw something very interesting. A decorative display panel made up of old pipes. Well, there were two panels, but it was the one on the right that caught my eye. In that oval-shaped circle, and just outside of it as well, there were several of what I would call "Bavarian hunter" style corncob pipes. There are four in the middle with about ten-inch stems, and eight on the outer ring with about six-inch stems. Curved bit, long stem, the bowl attaches to the side of the stem, not the end. Is there a chance of maybe a limited run of that type ever being produced again? I could, given enough time, possibly figure out how to modify a pipe to that style, (and have considering that very thing since I saw your video) but... I realize that such a pipe wouldn't have a huge buying crowd, they are complex, hard to carry around, and would probably be a bitch to clean, but it would be a fun pipe to own. Thanks for your products, I should be putting together an order from you here soon. I really love the look of the cobbit "Wizard'

Love my MMs. Only thing I wish would be added to the site is (unless I missed it) mentioning letting your cob sun bathe to dry it out, with stem removed of course. My cob started tasting foul after a few months of heavy smoking and cleaned it to no avail and after letting it sit in the sun for 5 or 6 hours it smokes as good as new. This isn't anything to do with design or manufacture, more the nature of a cob. Breathability makes a great smoke but it is essential to upkeep it seems. Keep on making great pipes

On that last question: I have read in a couple of places that when Mark Twain was traveling in and around the Eastern Hemisphere, at one point he was speaking to a Turkish gentleman who took his meerschaum pipe out of his pocket, filled it, and lit it. Twain took out his corncob and did the same. The Turk asked why he was smoking a humble corncob instead of a meerschaum. Twain replied that this was a "Missouri Meerschaum!" The tale made the rounds, and the designation stuck to and became the official name of the famous product of Washington, MO.

Late 1600s... 1680ish.... due to cold winter and using cobs for other reasons including burning in fires. That is what I have been told as for creation of cob pipes (unsure the truth behind that or as to exactly who or if it was native american)

That was kind of a dodgy response to the first question. Custom grades and millenniums are not that much like the pipes today. Cob shanks, brass ferrules and great stems sure the bowl looks the same but it is not the same look and feel at all

- I'd be happy just knowing when the first Corncob pipe scene in use. - Do you still offer the 2nds in a Grab Bag of ten pipes for about $30.00? I sent you an email message from your Web Site with this question. - I have not smoked a pipe since my College Days, nearly 50 years ago. - Today I ordered your Country Gentleman Cob Pipe with a straight bit from Amazon. Your pipe will be my first smoke for a long time. I promise I will be gentle and loving to your virgin pipe.

Great question about the first Corn Cob pipe. We do not know the answer, but assume that the first use was by Native Americans who cultivated both corn and tobacco. The first commercial production began in 1869 here in Washington by our company's founder, Hendrik Tibbe. Yes, we still offer the Grab Bag. You can see it on our website for $33.99. We hope you enjoy your return to the pipe smoking hobby, and thanks for ordering one of our pipes. You don't have to be too gentle with the Country Gentleman, just make sure the tobacco is not too moist and that it gets a rest between uses.
