Sweet.....I first saw those oaks in 1985, just before the park opened and they've stuck in my mind ever since. The Cadzow oaks at Chatlherault surround an ironage "fort" and I've always wondered if it was some ancient religious site as Oaks are important trees in the old British religions?

Bearing in mind that this area was part of a deer park/hunting area the trenches might not be a hill fort and could possibly be a Deer Hay Wind' used to capture deer for management purposes - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deer_hay_wind

Historic Environment Scotland have not been that certain about the nature of the trenches over the years
