Hairdresser here: Your roots are long enough, but if I was doing your hair I would want another 2 inches of regrowth. If you came to me asking for a balayage look with your current roots, I would just formulate a color that matches your roots and drag it down a little further

Heya! I'm a hairdresser student at Toni & Guy, mainly to specialize in color. Though I do have 4 yrs of self-learning and time to time working at a salon. About the Balayage, you could get the root smudge as the one person said. It really depends on your preference of where the fading/blending of brown to pink to start. Some clients would like more root color or the other way around. But considering you have Medium hair length and unsure how the condition of your lighten hair is. I would recommend your roots are good where they are now to between where your eyebrow arc is. But I highly suggest finding a reference photo of how you want the root ratio to your hairdresser. Hope this helps! ^-^

I’m watching the Tangled Series too, the episode, “Pascal’s Story” is heart wrenching!! On the hair note... I’d recommend letting the roots grow just a bit more, and book a partial highlight/balayage appointment for a month out or so. Give the new roots a bit of dimension, and you can continue to apply your own pink over that. 😊

Went to Paul Mitchell and worked in a salon for a bit. Don't bring the brown down! Because you'll be covering the lightened area, which means less pink (and you'd have to lighten it again later, its damaging in the long run) I'd just tough it out and give it another 2 or 3 inches, and then have them feather/balayage the lightener from your blonde into the roots, which means more pink! and the more pink that you have the longer you can go with out getting a retouch because you'll have a nicer pink/natural ratio. I'd even ask them to go up a little higher towards the front around the hair that frames your face, it'll brighten and bring more of the color you love to the front. OH! and the more pink you have the easier itll be for your current extensions to blend with your hair than if you brought down the brown. Anyway I'm sure you hair will look great whatever you decide!

A suggestion for the light in the laundry room. Try checking that switch at the top of the stairs. We have a really weird set up where we have a switch at the top and at the bottom of our hall way stairs, but for some reason if you turn off the light at the bottom of the stairs, the switch at the top of the stairs suddenly no longer works, and you have to go back down and turn the switch back on before going back up stairs to turn the actual light back on.

Laundry light. I had a ceiling light that stopped working. And when we took it off the wires were super old and chewed up, and they had just come undone. Idk how comfortable y’all are with wiring and lighting. It’s super easy to just pop out check wiring and retie them if need be. But it might be something you can just get the landlord to do

That’s about the length that my aunt’s roots had grown out, maybe an inch longer, and then I did a shadow root on her to help blend the blonde and brown together. That way, you can keep growing your hair out and it won’t be that awkward in between stage. Once you get the length of brown you want, you’ll just need a touch up then for the balayage.

Obligatory not a hairdresser, but my mom is and I've been dyeing/bleaching and cutting my own hair for years: I would wait a little bit longer, because you want to avoid getting any kind of permanent color on your blonde pieces. Everything other than things like Overtone, Arctic Fox, Manic Panic etc, don't require a developer (like bleach or peroxide) is just going to damage your hair further and cause breakage. Also, you'd have to use a red or orange filler first, then brown or else the brown will come out green. The color wheel controls everything ;P. I hope this helps. I know its tough and annoying to wait it out, but it'll be worth it in the end.

Also quick question about pins: (anyone who's made their own feel free to answer) when you're first ordering from a company to test them, how many pins do you order? If that company ends up having too many defects, do you get that same pin design from a different company therefore having to pay the mold fee twice? Also do you ever worry about a company reusing your design to sell pins?
