The part of the show where Will has an interview with a Princeton recruiter. Not showing any interest in the school, he solves the rubix cube just for the heck of it. If only this was possible...maybe solving a cube will get someone in...who knows?!

@@justshanie101 Ironically many times people with lower IQ's will end up doing better in school later on because sometimes smarter people tend to find the initial work too easy and coast through early grades on their own intelligence and thus don't learn proper study and work habits and get brick walled in high school or university.

the way will acts is great work by smith himself showing why he deserved to be a big movie star in the first place great acting chops as he showed in six degrees of separation ..the character could of come off as annoying with what is written but the earnest natured kind of to the audience 4th wall breaking way he delivers these lines is appealing..he isn't trying to be the smartass or idiot hes found a nice middle ground with being a little smartass and a little dumb but still funny and more of an in joke then it is suppose to be....like when he says momma no and starts dancing for no reason..thats what he added to the character and they kept it in..we laugh at him instead of the line...

This is incorrect. Millions of dollars are pumped into urban areas, which so happen to generally be the most underperforming areas in state education. Grants, scholarships, public trusts, endowments...all of that money is provided but is either squandered, mismanaged, or stolen by city officials and educators. Despite the wasted money, students in urban schools still receive more money per student than non-urban schools. The true culprit to blame is the poor parenting and poor raising of children. It wasn't West Philly's fault, it was Will's upbringing IN West Philly. Money is a result of, not the cause of, a good education and success.

I have a feeling that the recruiter knows exactly what he's doing. He gets all kinds of people walk into his office, from prep school types who have been given every advantage in life through influence or money, the straight A students who worked incredibly hard to be one of the chosen few to be given tuition or a scholarship, and people like Will who are here because it is expected of them. One of his first statements "You're funny - we frown on that at Princeton," is the recruiter's way of cutting through the shell of humour that many students like Will often hide behind; Princeton probably enjoys witty and sociable people with charisma and drive to work hard, but some people do hide behind an attitude because they lack confidence in other areas, a classical misdirection, and the statement is another way of saying "don't joke around, I want to know the real you," As for reading and breaking down Will's grades and extra curricular activities, again a test of integrity and conviction; there can be a lot of people who would become very defensive when their past records are brought up or their pristine coating brought into question, thus you can tell who is a phoney based on who would take their failings in their stride and those who would lose their cool when it is brought up. Because it doesn't get a rise out of Will, that could be proof of someone who isn't just about appearances and crumbles when it is revealed to have no substance. And it works, because Will starts really opening up, saying that he isn't just rejecting it for its own sake, there is an insecurity about where he would fit in at Princeton. But the moment Will solves the Rubix cube is where it is really genius - the recruiter probably has it on his desk not for his use, but for the aspiring students to come in and work on. Will doesn't just demonstrate problem solving skills, logical reasoning, and motor skills when he picks it up and solves it, he is showing a keen interest in what the recruiter is doing, he is showing he is a people person, someone who sees someone struggling and wants to help. A lot of the interviewees would most likely ignore this, be too by the book in their approach, trying to be the best of the best, and probably won't be sincere when they say "Thank you for your time," to the recruiter, seeing this as more of a chance to flex their ego and make the conversation one sided. The Rubix cube is a way of breaking that one sided interaction, because it is engaging rather than expressing. And it also tries to make it seem like the dynamic is flipped as well, making Will think that he is in control of the situation rather than the other way around, and thus he is less passive or dismissive of comments made, and engages with the recruiter. Once he makes it clear that the barriers between them are broken, they act a lot more openly, they communicate more casually, they start to enjoy each other's company, getting past the whole protocol that is being set up. It's how the recruiter starts to see what really makes Will tick, and get a better idea of what he enjoys and where his passions are, to the point where the two part on such good terms that Will is actually excited and considering a future with Princeton being his choice. Perhaps I am over thinking it, but the recruiter just turned a potential candidate from someone who had no interest in going to college into someone who is seriously considering it, and making them think it was all their idea.
