I like how this version of the bride combines the original “beating heart and candelabra” effects with the newer “serial widow” idea from 2006 onwards. I also like how exactly what happened to the husbands is left ambiguous. Did she kill them, or was it something else? Given how she seems genuinely saddened by their loss, I theorize that she truly loved them all, and if she killed them anyway, it wasn’t out of malice. Rather, she may have succumbed to a violent compulsion, only to be horrified by her own actions and attempt to “do better next time”, genuinely falling in love with each man and then falling prey to the same cruel urge again and again. If that’s the case, then it REALLY ups the tearjerker factor.

In Florida the very first room you ride through before the portrait gallery has a staircase above and it's easy to miss if you don't look up immediately, but there's a floating candelabra up there also. I love the concept that the bride is following you throughout but only her candles are visible.
@NateDohDoubleGee15 күн бұрын
Usually I dislike when Disney changes the stories in any way on the older rides, but this is one of just a few exceptions. The creepy heartbeat throwback is a great choice! The effect of the bride is fantastic and the more open story of leaving the husbands deaths unknown allows room for the guests to speculate what could have happened to all of them. It's been a while since they've nailed something, but in my opinion they got this one right.
@mariamay576314 күн бұрын
Agreed. And the new storyline is very similar to Phantom Manor in Paris. Now the Bride is more of a depressed widow who can’t get wed and not a killer. Makes me wonder if Disney is gonna ditch the axe storyline completely for all the parks and have all the brides be more of a victim character instead of villains.

@tsubaki410612 күн бұрын
I’ve already posted one possibility earlier in this section, but I’ve just thought of two more that I feel I need to post. I think it’s within the realm of possibility that either the cat, the Hatbox Ghost, or both may have had a hand in the poor grooms’ fates. Maybe one or both swayed the bride to kill her men. Maybe he/it/they acted directly instead. As to why, who knows? Jealousy? Sadism? At this point, I’m not ruling anything out.

Here is the MASSIVE issue I have with the new ghost bride. You can see a VERY distinctive wedding dress on the bride in the portraits. The Disney of the past would have painstakingly recreated that dress only to weather and destroy it. The piece of cloth on the new ghost HAS NOT EVER BEEN A WEDDING DRESS. It's a tattered cloth and it has always been a tattered cloth. THAT IS THE VERY DISTINCT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE DISNEY OF THE NOW. They don't get that DETAILS MATTER. She now doesn't look like any other ghost in the building, in the same way that Redd didn't look like any other pirate in the building when they added her. It's jarring and it takes you out of the story moment.

Ya this bride, this new one, looks far superior in every regard than the "Constance Hatchaway" character that was so shoehorned into the haunted mansion. This Bride is quite pretty, and yet its obvious she's sad, and tragic and melancholy. The new bride is also a better tribute to the previous versions pre-constance Brides. She almost seems calming, and the iconic heartbeat of hers, and the glowing heart, is a nice tribute to previous Brides, as well as the Phantom Manor bride. This bride, is a sad widower, who didn't kill her husbands, but that this bride's husbands kept dying, leaving her alone, with no one to love.

I haven't been able to get to the park to see the new bride myself but it looks fantastic. A clarification about whether this is a return to the "original" bride. Although there was a bride named Priscilla in the abandoned Bloomere Manor storyline, it's unclear if this was ever meant to be the bride we meet in the attic. They appear to have different origins. The first sketch we have by Marc Davis doesn't actually show a bride, just a female ghost holding a candle. Someone at some point must have thought she looked like a bride so that's how they executed (ba-dump) her. What I like about the new version is also what I liked best about Beating Heart bride: its air of mystery. We don't know who she is or how she died, so we're all permitted our own head canon about her. I honestly wish more Disney rides were like that.

My only creedence with the new bride is that she should be more mobile. I know none of the previous brides moved, but I feel like Disney missed the opportunity to have her 'float' about to match the movements of the floating candleabra. If you know how the Lumier animatronic works in WDW, then you can probably see where I'm getting at; have her float about and maybe even look around in search of her husbands. As for the potential fate of the hanging Ghost Host, the only acceptable change I could see them going is having it be the *actual* ghost of the Ghost Host holding the noose, similar to the Phantom in Phantom Manor.
@GeriMars15 күн бұрын
I hope Disney DOESN'T remove the hanging Ghost Host. He's essential to the story. Btw, the Follow-You-Home Ghosts in the mirrors look different to me. Did Disney remove the ghosty-go-'round for cheaper, flatter, 2-D tech?

I personally like the new bride (although the face bugs me a bit) but I'm not a fan of the new hitchhiking ghosts. The animation is too simple to distract you from the fact that they're flat, I kinda wish they did a bit more like maybe a glow effect around the doombuggies too. Also I'm gonna miss the Von Ginger ghost that was replaced by the candelabra. There used to be two of those silk ghosts (one also in the seance room) but I guess now they're just both gone.

I wish they’d just give the bride her own animatronic already. She used to have an animatronic then it got “updated” to the Constance Hathaway projection on a mannequin body. And now we have the new “updated” bride which is ALL projection, and the storyline of Constance Hathaway is gone..

Prior to 2006, there was no story of Constance Hatchaway. This update returns the Haunted Mansion to its original story.
@2doot15 күн бұрын
@@Chuck_Stanleythe story isn't the issue that OP is pointing out. The point is that the issue most people had with Constance was the poor projecting, so to double down on projections seems like an odd choice when the previous bride was a full figure, was well received, fit the theme, and was appropriately spooky. This bride is based off of that one, but it's a situation of fixing something that isn't broken. or fixing a problem with a problem, rather, when many fans have expressed for nearly two decades how they just wish to have an animatronic figure back in the attic as the bride. Constance was a hot mess, but at the very least, she brought in the significance of storytelling. This bride has the problems of Constance's boring projections but without the benefit of lore. Imagineers said that the change was made because Constance was out of date, which is true, but replacing her with YET ANOTHER projection effect that will look painfully dated again in another 5 years seems silly, as opposed to an animatronic that has proven to be timeless.

HAUNTED MANSION THEORY: The new bride is technically a victim but a victim of revenge. The one-eyed cat always follows her around and her grooms always end up meeting a fate, leaving her alone and forgotten until we see her. Who else probably had one eye? Captain Gore! This is Priscilla (although her name is still Constance)!! But in this story she outlives the captain and is cursed by his past! If we all come together to believe a story it technically comes true let's make something like this happen!

The day they take away the hanging ghost host is the day that Disney is completely dead to me, I need to be so real. God forbid theres allusions to death in a ride all about ... Uh... Death.
@filmanalysis719115 күн бұрын
I absolutely can't stand how far removed Disney has become from the very basics of storytelling. The Mansion had a 3 act story structure that supported the theme (facing death in a healthy way). Now, it has a double camel hump structure. We go to a party, see a woman who has lost everyone she has ever loved, and then back to another party? Also, this has ruined the messaging of dealing with life and death in a heathy way. Before, you started off seeing it as sad, stuffy, all-consuming, and lonely. You feel sympathy as you face the brutal reality of it, but still go forward (the Ghost Host's "way" out of a metaphorical place with no quick escape). Once you accept it with care and process that grief, you see the life in the afterlife. As someone who suffered a very traumatic loss right before a big family vacation we had planned, I was really nervous about going on HM because I wasn't sure if I would be miserable and crying having to think about passing in horrible ways or just loss in general. But I went on it with my family, and it actually helped me. I came off of the ride feeling a sense of calm that no matter how horrible the transition from life to death is for someone, there can still be peace and a celebration of life once that grief is faced in full. Now, we see that same peace and celebration interrupted by a spirit who is forever tormented by loss? So...depression is forever? That would have made me feel 1,000x worse. Someone I am really close to right now has cancer, and it's very easy to feel like this could leave me depressed forever. However, I was leaning on the lesson I learned from the Mansion before to have some hope that things get better after you weather the storm. How in the world is this new story "more sensitive" to the guests? Realistically, I think all of the Imagineers and people working at the movie studios need to spend less time in the board rooms with the PR agents and more time with actual stories and people. It's quite telling that Irvine (I think it was her) said it was creepy that we were celebrating an axe m*rderer. No, we were celebrating a full story with an antagonist that rounded it out. Now HM doesn't have an antagonist or climax, nor does Tiana's Bayou Atmosphere. Where did the stories go?

I think she looks great! Her effect is light years better than Constance. And the fact that they included the one eyed cat as part of her scene is amazing!❤😊

They have done a fabulous job on the Mansion! Everything seems to have been touched up! Question: Did anyone see "The Candle Man" anywhere? I looked intently and simply could not spot hide ner hair of him!
@chericrabbypelley14 күн бұрын
He seems permanent on the holiday version at least. I also wonder if the man eating bat is still there, or if that was also Christmas only.
@Brian-1234514 күн бұрын
I'm also curious about what the future may hold for Candle Man. I remember a few months ago, a new large Candle Man prop was featured prominently in a video shot in Disney's Imagineering workshop. They definitely wanted us to see it and know they were up to something.

We got to go through the new hallway and elevator with an ECV. I love that they kept with the theme through there with portraits on the hallway walls. It makes you feel like you are in another area of the mansion.
@Brian-1234515 күн бұрын
Yes, they did an amazing job theming the new hallway as an extension of the existing mansion. Did you notice they created a servant's area, with bells on the wall that can be rung from various rooms in the mansion? Very nice touch!
@WindowtotheMagic15 күн бұрын
@@Brian-12345 Those bells have been there for decades, but were only visible to those exiting the ride without riding. Now, it's simply that more people are seeing them because of the accessible exit.
@Brian-1234514 күн бұрын
@@WindowtotheMagic Interesting. It makes sense that that portion of the hallway has always existed, and was added onto in the recent renovation. Is the lightning effect in that hallway's windows new, or has that been around for a while? It appeared to me that this was a new guest-facing area and got a nice, new theming.

So excited to go this Tuesday! Due to my work schedule, I haven’t seen the original HM since pre-Covid, only the holiday overlay!

I love the new Bride!!👰 I read that this year the Haunted Mansion would not have the holiday overlay and will be O.G. for Halloween. I am excited to see it that way for spooky season 🎃👻💀

It’s false. Holiday will come early again this year. Disney confirmed it…

I wonder if Disney World's Liberty Square Mansion will change the story or just given an updated "black widow bride." If they update just the figure, each park would have a unique bride, excluding Tokyo liberty square. It could also alude to why the Hat Box Ghost is not in the attic story wise at the Liberty Square Mansion.
@Delaney-and-the-Starlight15 күн бұрын
The bride definitely isn’t as bad as it was! I still think no face was creepier, but I love the heart! And the hovering! And the candelabra! I really like having the heartbeat back! IT ADDS SO MUCH!! She’s actually a bit creepy! Yet so beautiful too!!! And I love that!

When I visited this last November for Christmas I was so high on Full Spectrum Cannabis oil that I had a claustrophobic panic attack on the elevator and felt genuine fear during the entire ride. I thought I was going to become one of the Ghosts 😅🤣

honestly the beating heart bride is better, i hated the bad projector bride they have had it always looked terrible, it feels like more peopel are upset because they dont want change not because its bad
@mikaelacash379115 күн бұрын
I agree. The complaints are because of nostalgia. I will very much miss Constance, but the heartbeat ghost is far better in regards to visuals.
@Dhnendndjdjjxn115 күн бұрын
It’s ironic because it’s more accurate to the original version
@ari3lz3pp15 күн бұрын
The projector one looked way better IMO, they could've updated her easily also. I do miss the one with beating heart BEFORE both of these personally even though she was outdated technologically. This one's face also is strange and not in some eerie sense but like she's fake. They were trying to put it back to a place that was more eerie by way of sadness and some sympathy perhaps for the Bride or empathy, and the old heart...while giving an updated feel but to me it doesn't do well either way. The only good thing is that we have a tie in to the first hallway scene with the floating candles ... something that isn't very scary or impressive to today's children in a world of personal drone toys, KZbin "behind the scenes" etc.
@ari3lz3pp15 күн бұрын
It is and isn't. The older version before the projector was the most beautiful even though she didn't look real...this one ironically looks the most fake out of all three. I liked the idea they were going for a more "wistfully sad" story where she's a victim again and yet I'm too distracted by how awful it looks. Idk why other countries and even Florida get such better animatronics as a whole.....
@jaysonpida537915 күн бұрын
@ari.... This new 'bride' scene is far, far better.
@2doot15 күн бұрын
If they REALLY wanted to double down on the candelabra bit, and the idea shes following you, i think having the chance of a candelabra follwing you home in the mirror could have been a good option. Or even if like, it flickers in and out of view while you're looking at the hitchhiking ghosts. Assuming that Mini Leota is the same bride, it would also make sense for her to be the last thing you see (even if the dialigue kind of shatters my theory.) I don't think the silent stalker story for the bride is a bad idea and i think actually having her silent in the attic adds to this because it makes her motives unclear, its up to you to decide if her following is benevolent. I think that's well creepy, but it needs to be fleshed out to work imo. The idea of something silently stalking you and you don't know ehat their intentions are is a genuinely spooky idea.
@DanAllison14 күн бұрын
I really like the visual effects of the bride now (much better than the old tech), but 1) I wish they made her look more like the bride in the photos 2) I wish they kept her speaking her parts. It's the payoff of the whole attic scene leading up to her reveal. In short I wish it was more of a combo of the two versions.
@Law_Dogg15 күн бұрын
It’s so good to see that they at least upgraded most of the ride. You can even hear that the ballroom bridal march is FINALLY synced up with grim grinning ghosts in the graveyard!
@Pumpkinnight12015 күн бұрын
I have a theory on what I think the story of this bride could be. I think what happened is every husband that is shown in the five portraits in the attic may have suffered an illness or accident and died. So I think because of this the bride could have been so grief stricken by the death of so many husbands that she dies of a broken heart. Therefore she haunts the Mansion. That's just my thoughts.
@bebopblue14 күн бұрын
My favorite version of the bride I don't think was ever used other than being shown in promotional material. Close to what 16:39 shows, just a dark void for the face and glowing eyes but they were slightly open, just seemed a bit more eerie in that photo. Her name still appears to be Constance, it can be seen right before her on the plaque above the portrait. (George Constance 1877). And I guess the same story, just not with axes.

Looks great! I'm hesitant about "Disney sending a message that they appreciate what fans love" - it seems to me much more that "SOME PEOPLE at Disney appreciate what motivates fans" but it feels so disjointed. It doesn't feel like there's a single company policy line to be interpreted - but there's some people there doing good work!

She had a better red heart before this .......before the last one (before hatchet murderess) ...it was better. This one it's more blotchy looking from the videos and it looks like they took the original but sent her to a terrible black light rave party where she got botched plastic surgery.

While the Constance figure never quite worked immersion wise given her projection face, I actually liked the black widow angle as opposed to this more ambiguous version. But, I want to see it in person because I’m assuming it’s better while on the ride than a video can capture.
