Iron is one of the most common contaminants faced by well owners. From muddy-colored glasses of drinking water to bright orange streaks in toilets and bathtubs, iron leaves a trail of stains, discoloration, and foul tastes in its wake. Though it is one of the most prevalent water quality issues faced by well-owners, there are many solutions to rid your water of this unwelcome mineral. Join John Woodard, our Master Water Specialist, as we explore how iron gets in your water and how to remove it.

Great video. As someone who works in the water industry, your videos are very educational. Another way to knock iron out of solution, if you are dealing with a water well that has a storage tank, is to install a spray bar and riser in the storage tank. The tank will need to get cleaned out every year or two, but it keeps a lot of iron from getting into the home. It also knocks out hydrogen sulfide.

Well said Sir! Not many can talk about water filtration so clearly and transparently so that a layman can understand. There are so many scam water filter providers out there online that sell sugar pills, useless and unnecessary products. Glad to see a breath of fresh air on iron filtration to the KZbin. Take care, Casey.

Great video. People need to understand if you have iron in your homes water and you bath drink or wash your clothes in this, your liver will become toxic over time. If you have a inheritable disease called Hemochromatosis, your liver is much more susceptible to iron. This disease is fairly common, most doctors will not test for this. The majority of people have no clue until they get older after it is too late to treat for it. Everyone should ask their Dr. to perform a iron blood test.

For anyone that's dealing with a high load of ferrous/dissolved iron, look into hydrogen peroxide injection system followed by a catalytic carbon backwashing filter. The peroxide is one of the best oxidizers that's virtually harmless in water. They're not cheap, but they absolutely knock out all iron/hydrogen sulfide issues. It's worked in my case where we had upwards of 20 ppm of iron, sometimes more depending on the time of the year

Great video. This explains why I still had iron in my pool after putting a filter on the hose coming from the well pump. The iron was in a dissolved state and could not be filtered. Do you sell filters that can be used on a garden hose coming from the well pump that converts the iron then filters it before going into the pool? That is what I need! Thanks

Professional explanations! However, there is another method for treating iron water - using pre-aeration. Regeneration takes place without the use of chemicals, and the station is effective even at high concentrations of iron and manganese. :)

Two pump. First pump is well pump which discharges to open air tank for aeration of water. Aeration will cause iron to precipitate in that open air tank. Fill aeration tank with wiffle balls, or deliver water into aeration tank via numerous lawn sprinkler heads on the well pump delivery pump. Then route water to a second storage tank via gravity. House water pump then delivers water from the storage tank to the house. Make sure you control pumps by water levels in each tank. Filters are not the best method of removal when dealing with excessive iron concentrations.

I have been going through the ringer trying to treat the iron in our water. We live in a small city that is along the CA coast that has municipal well water. The water from the city comes from one of ten underground aquifer wells. The water has been getting worse over the years of the drought. The water is also extremely hard, grain 11. I have been through Culligan, what a mess, and now have Rayne, they are doing better but still not getting it all the way taken care of. A Big Blue housing with iron filter made one shower somewhat ok, then back to the yucky. I think we have the iron bacteria. The biggest issue is my hair and skin. The iron bleached out mt hair and makes it coppery but worst of all it costs the hair and skin and makes my 9:29 hair so oily and staticky and sticky and itchy and makes my skin itch and burn and makes my body tremble when it touches me in either the water or my hair. It’s disgusting. I don’t know what to do anymore. The soft water exchange tanks, a whole house filter and iron filter in big blue housings and still the water is shit.

What if you have a tank that is bedded with catalytic carbon and macro ion resin. Does that get rid of the ferrick? Or whichever one it was Ferris the one that gets removed with that sediment filter? Will macro ion resin and catalytic carbon inside the tank completely bedded with it remove both of those irons? Or do you need still the sediment filter? And if you don’t have the sediment filter, could you put a fully bedded catalytic carbon tank in front of the resin and the softener?would that take care of it?

We purchased an iron filter that uses potperm, and it is over eight years old. For the last few years we have had the loudest gurgling from the basement, coming from the unit. We have had the tech come out three or four times, but they don't know what to do, except charge 100.00 for the service call. I understand that the unit which does not contain potperm, is very noisy. Maybe we should revert back to just adding iron out to the softener salt. What is the most acceptable solution.

Besides that bill would have been around 8 thousand dollars . We are retired and then he added in electric to be run to them another 524 dollars . I have a koi pond so i know from years of testing water that water test kits need to be in date and he used a powder test kit . i use liquid test kit and ph meter that i have to calibrate

Because although you cant see it initially, once it comes in contact with oxygen, then it DOES become visible and stains fixtures and clothes just like ferric iron does. Ferrous iron is basically ferric iron that hasn't precipitated out of the water yet. But once its had enough contact time with the air, it will.
