100%. Despite their small window of MTV fame in the late 80s, such an underrated, under-appreciated band. I just revisited Vivid. In the wake of the BLM protests, it's fascinating (and insanely depressing) that more than half of the album deals with the issues at hand. Painful to process that, actually. More importantly, though, their stuff easily goes toe to toe with the best hard rock acts of the past 40 years.

Saw them at the Magic Bag in Ferndale, MI on their Vivid 25th anniversary tour…small club, no fences, no security blocking the stage…just you practically on the same stage with them up close. By far one of the greatest gigs I’ve ever seen (and I’ve been fortunate enough to see everything from Joshua Bell to George Clinton to Teena Marie, etc). I don’t know how they did it, but I dare say these guys sounded just as good or even better than they did in their prime. No joke. If you’ve never seen these guys and you get the opportunity, do NOT pass it up.

I then told him I'd be willing to take his drum spot for half his pay. LOL not joking! he got a kick out of it. That wouldve been the dopest gig...but I was out of practice. “You have the ability to change...to make things different in your own life and hopefully that will ripple across other folks and other cultures and other places” -Corey Glover
@bobthebear1246
@bobthebear1246 5 жыл бұрын
My initial reaction to seeing Corey Glover looking so - dare I say - old, was one of a bit of shock. That quickly went-away when I realized that he's still obviously in good health and spirits and with a very good, sharp mind. This is such a wonderful, informative, incisive interview that really shows us the inner thought process of a (in the mid-80s) young band that dared to be different in a sea of conformity. I have always loved and appreciated Living Colour as the social and musical statements they've always been, and salute them for being such a HUGE influence on the younger generations. They have influenced so many great bands featuring People Of Color, and cannot be discounted in any way, shape or form. Plus, they were and are a killer Rock band. 🤘 Mad respect to these innovators...

I am privileged to have seen them a number of times from CBGBs to Lalapalooza to a recent show in Long Island NY and everything in between. I just wish the industry would stop calling them an alternative rock band. They are heavy, tight, diverse and they are ROCK & ROLL, Green Day and Cold Play are alternative. LOL. And they are each some of the nicest guys on earth. Great interview. I love them. Thanks for posting!

A lot of factors come into our lives that affect changes and opens our eyes. Living Colour was one that affected a great and for the better change in myself as a man and a human being. Prior to knowing them as a "black" rock band I had just figured they were a kick ass rock band...a white Rock band, as my preconceived notion of that genre was as well as my ingrained racism led me like the fool I soon realized I was. Hearing such great music as well as finding it highly relatable in my own life, I turned the corner on my racist bent. I don't know if such a great change was eventual or not, but I do know that Living Colour was the inspiration in my life to begin a process of bettering myself. I salute Corey Glover and Vernon Red for helping me open my eyes and see the true richness of diversity, acceptance of others for themselves rather than a superficial determining, and for strengthening my heart to be a man and not a caricature. I love you guys so much! Makes me wonder if you ever got the letter I wrote you so many years ago when I was a young man without a clue. ..you guys helped me find a clue. Bless you brothers in soul.

Living Colour worked really hard as musicians to make really great music that changed the world. They were successful because of their hard work and persistence and creativity.

Cult of Personality contains one of the best rock guitar riffs of all time. The tone itself is iconic but even better is the way it starts and stops during the verses only to go hypnotically cyclic during the bridge

One of my favorite bands growing up, 4 guys who are amazingly skilled at their instruments individually, and together hit all of the key components I like in music: solid groove, shredding guitar and vocals that deliver the message deep into the soul. Thanks for sharing!

Corey, Veron, Muzz, and Will were my favorite band of the '90s. Color has a life of its own, the music will slam you against the wall, the message will open your mind & eyes. In my opinion, Zep and Hendrix were the only other bands that matched Living Color's power. Child of the '60s, I still listen to Living Color's amplified magic...

Saw Living Colour at a club right before the album and videos. Five bucks. Nobody even knew what they looked like. Blew the goddam roof off. I've seen a ton of concerts and this one remains #1 on my list.

I've always loved their music, but this is the first interview I've ever watched. I love Corey's perspective and approach. I could learn so much from him about music and life.
