Ive a lined fretless jazz bass 4 string. Not only can you play 2 note chords but also open and closed 3 note chords including dominant 7ths, major 7ths, minor 7ths, 9th chords etc. They sound really beautiful. The open chords can be played lower on the neck and you can avoid the muddy sound. You can also experiment with voicings like a pianists. Ive even composed using chords on the bass. Once you understand basic harmony (which I learned on Keyboard) you can do alot on bass and though 6 string basses have more room for chord voicings you can do it on 4 string too.
