I was good friends with Chris Tucker for a couple years before this came out, and he had NO IDEA that it would be what it became. He'd already shot "Dead Presidents," and he was SO excited to have done a movie with the guys who did "Menace II Society," (which was coming out in October and all of his career thoughts were about that), so when we went to the premiere for "Friday" in April, there weren't a whole lot of expectations. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised. It's awfully cute to think about it now, but the next day, (the day "Friday" came out), Chris and I went to the Chinese Theatre in Hollywood (where the premiere had been the night before.) It was the middle of the day, but he still made me jump out of his Land Cruiser (what he was driving at the time) and ask the box office person how the sales were going. A pair of young people happened to be buying tickets for "Friday" - and I directed them to Chris - who was illegally parked while waiting for me. They were overjoyed to meet him, and he was beyond happy that they were buying tickets. His life completely changed after that movie came out (no argument about that), but nobody who was around at the time could have predicted it 🙂.

This movie is from back in my day, but I had never watched it before this. It was good, but the chilli frito debate was even more entertaining. Quest for Fire is my favorite comedy of all time, but this one was very funny too.
