Friday Jam #11 | Korg Volca Sample - Ditto x4 Looper - Guitar Jam

In this one I'm syncing the Tc Electronic ditto x4 and vocla sample. Studio One is providing midi clock. I'm also using Studio One to trigger the looper pedal. After this the usual playing over the top and knob tweaking.

Hi Simon! great video. could I ask you how you connected all the equipment from the 1st to the last? I also want to ask if I can do connections between these to do a jam: guitar, boss rc 50, korg volca beats, fender amplifier. without using a computer (I know I have to sync the looper with the drum machine but I don't know how to do that)

Hi, thanks!, So in this one my computer is sending out clock to the ditto looper which is passed thru to the volca sample to sync them together. My guitar is running through my pedal board which is out of view. For your setup you would need to sync the looper to the beats. Having a quick look at that rc50 I can see it can detect the tempo of your loop and send out midi clock. So once you've recorded your loop the volca can be synced to it by connecting a midi cable from rc50-midi-out to volca-beats-midi-in. So your initial loop recording will set the tempo. thats the only way you can do it with that set up. Other than that you could buy another device that could act as midi clock, like a beatstep pro for example. hope that helps.

Hello Ferdinando, in my case, I use the volca sample and I did manually the modification for sending MIDI out from volca (I am neither a technician nor an electric engineer, is too easy to do, only need a solder). I don't know if the others volca models have that capability, check it here in KZbin as volca modification MIDI out. Good luck.

This is sick! I have a question. How do you sync the loop to the Volca? You're obviously playing the guitar longer than then 16 step sequence on the Volca. But it's syncing perfectly. Is there a MIDI sync somewhere or are you just dead on with your guitar loop timing?

I'd love to say I'm dead on with my timing 😂. Basically I'm sending clock into the loop pedal via it's midi in. Clocks actually coming from my computer software in this case. Then I'm just syncing the volca from the midi thru port on the looper

OR... is there another drum machine that also includes a MIDI clock to act as a master to the Guitar Loop pedal you have?

Yeh should work as long as that drum machine send out midi clock which it should, but check the manual

I’m a newbie when it comes to recording or using a computer when creating music. Is it possible to create something like this using the Korg as part of your standard pedal chain, and play directly into an amp? I’m looking to create unique drums beats, or ambient drones even, and play it through my pedal chain. Thank you!

Well, in this case I was sending midi clock into the looper from my computer and then chaining it into the volca. I made a midi tutorial if you want to know more.

Hi Simon! loved this jam, and the combo. I found your video because I was searching a solution for my solo project. I´m currently using a drum machine and guitar, it´s a Roland TR8, and looping with Boss RC3; but the looping gets difficult so I was looking for a looper that allows using a drum machine. Would you recommend using the Ditto X4 in my setup? thank you in advance!!

Ditto is ok but I had problems syncing with my digitakt. It seems to work ok with my computer midi sync. Read the comments in my ditto tutorial as others have had problems it seems

Does the midi out from the volca automatically trigger the ditto x4 or do you have to assign particular midi channels?

hey, i really hope you can help me.. i got the "boss rc 10r" and "the boss rc 600". i tried to sync them with the "korg volca sample 2" - i tried almost every option (midi cable into 3,5mm midi cable, looper as the out, drum machine as the out, etc..) but nothing seems to work - all i want is to synchronize the bpm via clock - can you tell me if the dito looper works fine in combination with the volca sampler, if the midi cable is connected between them? im so frustrated :(( greetings, marv
