**NOTE - having watched it back it looks like some of the footage appears twice as if in a loop. Not sure how this happened, but my apologies. ************************************************
With no football for Charlie & I to attend this weekend due to Coventry being away at Blackpool, I decided to show you something a bit different.
The Midland Air Museum based right next to Coventry airport is a great family visit to see static displayed planes that flew in the various War’s.
Vintage planes from the 1940’s, fighter jets from more recent conflicts and the Vulcan bomber which has been on display since landing at the airport in 1983.
Enjoy the walk around the museum with me, but there is still lots for you to see for yourselves that I didn’t cover. The staff are all enthusiasts who will tell you the history of the planes themselves. I spent around 20 minutes sat in the Vulcan talking to one of the chaps that volunteers at the museum.
If you get the chance, do visit it is well worth it. Great for people of all ages, it’s mainly on the flat for those less able, but ladders to climb for the younger visitors to see into some of the cockpits.
Reasonably priced at £8.50 for adults at the time of the recording, they also offer a family ticket for around £22. There is a shop on site selling aviation books new and old, as well as air fix models. There is a small cafe and some outside areas to sit and eat too.

A lovely, and underrated museum. Wish more of these historic machines could be kept under cover. You say ‘main thing here, the Vulcan bomber’. You are absolutely right. Wherever a Vulcan still exists it is the ‘main thing’. And yes, the Coventry Vulcan is one I have also been able to sit in the captain’s seat.

As an American, it’s hard for us to see your aviation museums. Thank you for showing us this wonderful museum.

Nice vid. Cheers. I went on coronation day for the first time…surprised it was open, but it was MT.. excellent to see inside and outside the Vulcan with the guide.. felt like a private tour. My kind of museum, as it is low key, but they have some serious planes.

To be honest, The Midland Air Museum doesn't get as much love as it should and it's a shame, I love going there myself, also from Coventry born and raised

The chap I spoke with said they do have quite a few visitors mainly at weekends so if this can help increase their visitor numbers then great and it’s a good place to spend a few hours

The picnic benches are a nice touch you can eat your lunch feet away from an English Electric Lightning…how cool is that.

Thanks ShyBlue Jay. Very interesting walkaround of an under rated museum. I used to live near Daventry and visited here frequently including my first entry into a Vulcan cockpit which was impressive. The dedication of the volunteers is to be commended and be supported for keeping our heritage alive together with that of our allies. Great stuff Mate and good luck to the Skyblues.

Thanks for the feedback Jim. I wholeheartedly agree with your comments about the volunteers, the chap who took me into the cockpit knew a lot not just about the aircraft itself but also the missions it flew on. Glad you enjoyed the video though 👍🏻

Hi, my wife and i went there last June when we were on Holiday near Stratford on Avon. We had an amazing time, and because we got there at Lunchtime, we did`nt have as long to look around, but we will be returning soon. We were particularly impressed with the walk through of the nimrod, and chatting to a couple of the volunteers who`d been climbing over one of the planes doing some maintainance, the senior of the 2 was 93.

Great tour thanks Jay, really interesting. A number of aircraft types I've never seen. Must try and get there before I KTB. Best of luck to the Sky Blues!

Coventry Airport is not little used. We live under the circuit. Light aircraft. Single & twin engined sometimes one after another over on a regular basis. Sometimes, like today about about six hours of helicopters possibly engaged in pleasure flights.

This is good news I came here around 7 years ago to see the Shackleton do it’s taxi run and the Nimrod but there were plans to sell the airport off for development and that would have evicted the museum which could have caused the aircraft to be sold off or scraped as they would cost too much to transport.

Not a bad video of a much beloved air museum. It has some rather interesting aircraft in the collection, that a few other museums don’t have, mainly the Starfighter and Phantom aircraft. It’s a shame they never restore the Phantom F 4, at the side of the road, it’s a unique model. As a frequent visitor to this site, the volunteers are always make you welcome and you can have good chats with them…It’s worth plugging that the museum always welcomes new volunteers with no skill levels to persons with useable skills, they always make you welcome…The Vulcan missions were coded Black Buck missions, the amount of fuel transfers from Victors to get them to the falklands was a logistical nightmare. Having worked on Vulcans I know from conversations that many a time they felt it was a wing and a prayer missions….The only time aV - Bomber dropped bombs in anger……If your into visiting air museums it’s worthwhile going to East Midlands aero park, and Newark air museum in Nottinghamshire. Duxford, Cosford and London site are well worth a visit as well as the Shuttleworth collection near Beds….By the way Coventry are a pub team Sunday league at best…lol….Follow rugby you have Wasps that still play out of Coventry…😊😊

Thanks for your comments Joseph, and thanks for the tips on other places to visit. I’ve been to Duxford and Cosford before but not any of the others. Our Sunday pub team are doing very well thanks. Much better than Wasps who went out of business and the city as a whole earlier in the year 😉
