It was X, It looks like four because there's an illusion that makes u think it's four but it's X Depending on the shape.

Four was corrupted by the corruption, then later got X so the corruption can get bigger and infect the world. Later all of the contestants except Ruby were corrupted. Then later X became bigger so X can grab them and throw them into the corruption easily.
